Hey loves!

Spring is here in Dallas! As a Michigander all of my life, Spring usually doesn’t hit Michigan until about May. So to have warm spring weather in Dallas in March always amazes me. But, I’m here for it because I can start transitioning winter pieces in my closet and remix them for spring! Like this velvet midi skirt I got a few weeks ago. I have been in love with it since I pulled it out of the package and the luxe velvet touched my fingertips. Was that too much? Sorry, but this skirt is just simply LOVELY and I want you to buy it!

If you are wondering how to wear velvet in Spring, the answer is pretty simple. You want to find a lightweight velvet piece that you can easily layer to go with the ever changing temps. The idea with extending velvet from Winter to Spring, is to make it more of a transitional piece that you can layer with multiple items in your closet. When I bought the skirt, my initial plan was to wear it with a sleek turtleneck and knee boots with a nice, streamlined coat and vampy lips. Well, I never got around to wearing that look since Spring got here so quickly. So I made some easy changes to make it spring ready! When I styled this look, it was one of those moments where I was desperate to make it happen. I was deep in my closet, searching on what to wear with this skirt. Nothing really stood out to me and I was close to giving up lol. Can I be honest with you for a sec? When I post looks on the blog, there is a little pressure there to get the look right. So I really go through it when I am creating an outfit because I don’t want y’all side eyeing me like “ummm girl, no!” lol.

Anyhoo, I am certainly pleased with this look. It has my name written all over it! I was glad that I was able to pair this velvet midi skirt with a few other spring transitional pieces such as the bomber jacket and the open toe booties (old Zara sale goody). I see myself wearing this look to events, church and brunch too!

I hope this post on how to wear velvet in spring gave you a few ideas. Do you have any velvet pieces in your closet that you want to carry in to spring? Let me know, I’d love to know how you plan to wear it!

I found an amazing deal for affordable Artis oval brush set dupe for only $10!!! Thats right, a 5 pc Oval Makeup brush set for $10!! If you are not familiar with the Artis brand, they are the creators of the oval makeup brush. The oval makeup brush offers a more smooth and flawless makeup application, however, the cost for one Artis oval makeup brush starts at $50!! Well, I found a fabulous Artis Oval Brush Set Dupe for only $10 and I am loving it!

Check out my first impressions and demo using these brushes. So far, so good! I also love how they are also great for travel as they aren’t huge brushes, but still sized comfortably!

I still need to see how they hold due to washing and frequent use. But, for $10, I have no complaints!

Hey there!

So lets talk about bras today! I don’t know about you, but I have plenty of bras that I just hate! Some that are just plain uncomfortable, others that don’t fit me properly or some that makes me look flat as a board. I am so over having wearing these terrible things that is supposed to keep me contained and not moving every which a way when I am out and about. Its been plenty of times where I couldn’t take it anymore and I unsnapped my bra in the car or at my desk at work lol.  So when I saw Third Love, a bra company, in my Instagram feed, I was quite intrigued. Third Love not only offer a 100% fit guarantee AND a TRY ON for 30 DAYS FOR FREE, they also offer a new nude collection in five shades! Yes girl, not just that one shade of “nude” we always see in the stores. I had to see if it lead up to the hype. And ladies… they totally do!

So like I said, they offer a 100% Fit Guarantee, so if you are not pleased with your bra or purchase, you can exchange it or return it for free. Thats definitely a HUGE plus when ordering a bra online! They offer wireless, full coverage, push up, t-shirt, strapless, plunge, racerback and lace. Not sure which one to order? You can complete their “FIT FINDER QUIZ.” The quiz is awesome and totally helped me to select my bra, the Classic T-shirt Bra! The quiz asks you various questions such as the shape of your breast, what are your fit issues, if you prefer a natural cup or push up etc. The quiz really addressed all of my issues when it comes to finding a bra that fit. Personally, I now have a asymmetric shape due to breast feeding. Which means one boob is significantly bigger than the other, I must say this is a body issue for me that has been really hard to deal with. So when I purchase a bra, I usually have to get the bigger size to accommodate the bigger boob, but that leaves me with the issue of the bra gaping open on the side with the smaller boob. Well, not anymore! My Classic T-shirt Bra FITS ME PERFECTLY ON BOTH BOOBS!! No more of the cup gaping open. Its a close and perfect fit to my body. Glory be to God!!

Now that you know of my issues with my bra fitting me perfectly, lets discuss the five shades their New Naked collection comes in!! If you head to their site, you will see all of the various shades of their naked collection. I chose a darker tone nude bra to complement my skin tone based on the model. However, I do wish they had more of a true caramel tone. The naked-3 shade, which is the shade above this one, the naked-4, has more pink undertones to me based on the picture. I need a nude bra with a little more caramel, honey shade. So there is room to expand there. But, to even think of offering a nude bra in a broader color range is a great step in the right direction!!

So please try this brand and let me know what you think. I know one thing is for sure, I am ordering more of these bras! This is a total game changer for me in terms of the fit and color. I am so totally pleased!

Do  you struggle finding a perfect bra fit? If so, Third Love is a great place to start!

Hey loves!

As you know, I was in New York a few weeks back for my very first New York Fashion Week (read about it here)! As you can imagine, packing for New York during the winter time is quite a feat. Not only do I need to be stylish, but stay warm as well. I mean, I’m all for fashion, but what I am not gonna do is freeze my butt off! So it was absolutely crucial to have pieces to layer and keep warm in, while enduring the cold while in NYC. Rent The Runway to the rescue!!

Rent The Runway is truly a great travel hack because you seriously save so much space in your luggage.  You can rent dresses, accessories, coats, pants and handbags too!! Which to me, is quite important as I am a pro- carry on kind of girl.  I love using packing cubes to save space in my luggage! Whats great about RTR is that you can go online, select your pieces and the date you need them and have them delivered your home, hotel or wherever. When I was in NYC last October, I rented a few dresses for our anniversary shoot and had them delivered to the hotel (see the shoot here and here). After my rental period was up, I simply returned them to the RTR store in NYC. If you are not in New York, don’t worry! You can totally return them via UPS as well. Seriously, how easy is that?!

Rent The Runway also has an Unlimited program where you can rent up to three pieces and keep them as long as you like for $139 a month. If you didn’t know, RTR has tons of designer items such as Marissa Webb, Derek Lamb, DVF, Zac Posen and lots more! Free shipping, dry cleaning and you can cancel at any time! So the next time you are planning your vacay and wondering what to wear, just head to RTR and have your selections delivered to you. I linked a few vacay ready pieces from Rent The Runway below.  What a great hack right? Saving luggage space and still slay? You are winning!

Have you rented from RTR before? I’d love to hear what you rented and how you liked the service!

Please share!

You just put on this shirt and make it do what it do! I’m here for that!

I posted this shirt on my Instagram last night and everyone fell in love with it. So I figured I would post this look today for those of you who may not have seen it. Right now the fam and I are at home in our pjs full from breakfast and enjoying a relaxing day at home. I absolutely adore the weekends! Especially the ones when we make breakfast as a family, curl up on the couch with no real plans but the day ahead of us. I love a little get up and go, but I really enjoy and appreciate these moments even more.

So you guys, how many of you watch Love & Hip Hop??

Its ok, this is a safe place for you to admit your guilty pleasure! But, I must say that I, an educated woman watch this foolery and I am still trying to figure out why. Tonight, I watched the reunion show of Love & Hip Hop New York and it was a complete mess. Remy Ma and Papoose were the only two on the platform who were not acting a fool. But, why do we watch these shenanigans again and again on reality tv shows? Its really not just because of the storylines, but its because in a way we like seeing people fail. Let me explain!

There are plenty of reality tv shows that I feel some kind of way about in terms of being messy and again, pure foolery ( I have a feeling the word “foolery” will be all up and thru this post btw.) But again, it’s not just about a storyline the producers and “stars” use to draw us in. Its about forcing people to take a side and wanting the other side to lose. Because I just literally finished watching Love & Hip Hop Reunion Special, I will try to keep my focus on this particular show. Anyways, in tonight’s reunion show, there was a HUGE fight between Yandy and her “husband” baby mommas. If you haven’t watched the show, Yandy’s husband Mendeeces is in jail for a looonnng time for a crime he committed and he has two baby momma’s and his wife Yandy. Well, the kids mothers are attempting to get the kids together to ensure they have a relationship together while the father is in jail. Lets just say this attempt continues to fail and fail again because of their pettiness and immaturity that gets in the way of these kids having at least a darn play date. Anyways, these grown women end up on stage cursing each other out and fighting because of all of the trifling things they have done and said about one another. In case you didn’t know, its #teamyandy and then the other two baby mothers who have joined forces to try to bring her down (insert eye roll here).

Now, I am not going to say whose team I am on. Actually, I am not on either of these three ladies team to tell you the truth. They are all acting very immature and I cannot support the foolery. But, let me tell you this, I do believe there is a level of respect and hierarchy that you have to understand here. Yandy, his “wife” holds the hierarchy because hello, she is his “wife!” I am not going to go into why I am putting “wife” in quotations because this post isn’t about doing a darn review of the show, but I am trying to make a point. Yandy truly did not have a need for bringing herself down by fighting these drama filled women. You would not have caught me out there looking crazy. If I was Yandy, I would’ve set myself right in that seat and just looked at these chicks with a smile on my face. Why? I have the commitment of the man I love, beautiful children who don’t need to see their momma act a fool and my bank account is sitting nice and pretty because I am an entrepreneur of several businesses. Are you not entertained by what I have worked hard for and built on my own?? Now do you want to sit here and look foolish or take some notes so you can try to get what I have. You mad or nah?! #petty

So why do I say we like to see them fail? Because its true. If you think about it, the “I told you so’s, she’s so stupid she gonna go back to him, he don’t have any money to take care of his kids, etc etc.” Its like we get points for being right about what happened to these people who are supposedly living their lives for the world to see. Even watching the Housewives franchise or any other reality tv show will have you doing the same thing, “watch he’s gonna cheat on her, she’s gonna go bankrupt, she’s broke, their marriage is gonna fail.” Blah, blah blah, I think you get the point! Honestly, its kind of sad that we are amused and entertained by watching these people fail. I mean they have struggles, shortcomings and personal issues just like anybody else. Its very rare that you are celebrating the success of these people we do not know, but more so highlighting their moments in life that they are probably not very proud of.

So what is this post about?? I don’t know girl, I was just watching and thought what a mess it was and how we are more entertained by their failures then their success. Funny thing is, these reality stars and tv networks know that its a winning formula that works. Give the people drama and foolery!  I guess that check must be worth it huh?!

So what do you think? Do you think that reality tv shows such as LHH is more about highlighting people failures  more then their success? Or you just cant take the ratchet out of everybody? Hmmm..

Thoughts?

Hey there!

Soooo, I pretty much want all ten of the lace cami’s I have linked below. Why? Because they are an excellent transitional and layering piece to your wardrobe. You can layer them under a suit, blazer, jean jacket or cardigan and look amazingly chic. I’m all about pushing thru and giving a little chic to my wardrobe. I stumbled across this one at Nordstrom Rack and fell in love with how soft it was and the lace detail in the back of the tank. It doesn’t take much to make this cami look gorgeous and work with any outfit.

When I put together my outfit looks for the blogs, often times I have NO CLUE on what to wear. Its hilarious to me that as often as I shop or receive certain things for the blog that I still have no clue what to wear. The night before this shoot when I was  pulling looks, I was so tired and over it. I was like girl throw that together and call it a day and go to bed. Well, look how cute it all came together! A lace cami is exactly why you need one or two in your closet for those moments where you want an instant outfit and move on with your life. Pair them with boyfriend jeans, culottes, midi skirts or wide leg pants and you are winning honey, winning!

I hope you enjoyed this look. Let me know if you add any of these adorable cami’s to your wardrobe!

Stay tuned for Thursday’s blog post. I have another NYFW look for you to see!

Now, I am not a woman of New York, but let me tell you, attending New York Fashion Week has been on my list of things to do before I started blogging!! The glitz and glamour of attending runway fashion shows and chit chatting with the “who’s who” seems so wonderful. It’s only been a few years now that bloggers are actually counted amongst those in the industry to  be able to attend NYFW. Well, last week I was glad to be in that number, but man did I learn a few things about NYFW that I am here to share with you. Not to mention the snow storm of the year prevented your girl from attending almost 2 full days of it (insert my tears here).

Honestly, I did not plan on attending NYFW this February. But, Marche Robinson of Robinson Style, reached out to me and asked did I have plans to go and if not, lets go together. Well, you didn’t have to ask me twice! It made it an easier decision to take on NYFW with a room mate and someone that I knew. I’ve known Marche through a few blog groups and of course follow her blog!! So I was down for the cause and we started our plans to attend. We clicked instantly when we officially met last week and are planning to attend NYFW in September too!

So anyway, lets cover a few of the things I did in order to prepare for my attendance to NYFW, as well as scoring invitations to shows. Oh, did you think invites just magically appeared in my inbox?? I wish! I am not there yet! You have to put in some work for them. I received invitations from Club Monaco, Jill Stuart and three other presentations thru me contacting the brand! So you have to put yourself out there if you want to get in to some of these events. I would say give yourself a two month time span from the date of the show to get all of these things done:

  1. Secure accommodations: I stalked sites for a good deal for a flight, so that was easy. Next, was to find a hotel! As a blogger and influencer, you can pitch to different hotels to see if they will host your stay OR provide you with a media rate. So let them know who you are, what you can offer them and have your media kit ready to send to them! If you don’t get any bites, thats ok, just book your hotel and work on Travel content for your blog so that next time you can show them your work providing travel content the next time you reach out.
  2. Book a photographer: I don’t see how you can attend NYFW without a photoshoot planned! I mean come on, New York is the PERFECT back drop for any blogger. So start scouring photographers in the area and request rates! Usually, rates are a bit higher during NYFW. So thats why I say to start maybe two months prior when you search to give yourself enough time to make a decision and book. I have used Laurel Creative twice and she’s great!
  3. Draft your email requesting an invite: Some bloggers get invites to shows, presentations and showrooms! How nice, but guess what, there are some of us that have to put in a little work to get invited to shows! So go ahead and get started on crafting your email to brands requesting an invite! I recommend  explaining who you are, that you will be attending fashion week and would like to participate in any events they may have. Don’t make it lengthy, just to the point! Find the media contact or PR firm that represents that brand and email them your request! You may have to do some digging around. Google is your friend!  Oh, also reach out to showrooms too for visits. Sometimes they have some of their new collections or may even let you borrow some pieces. Most importantly, don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear back immediately. Most of my invites came like 3 days before I arrived so be encouraged!
  4. Head to NYFW “The Shows” and “Fashion Week Online” website: These sites provide the schedule of all of the shows during Fashion Week. Its a great resource to help you plan what shows you want to attend, location and time. Keep in mind that the full schedule isn’t updated until maybe 1-2 weeks prior to Fashion Week. Use the letter that you drafted and begin sending out to the brands who are on the schedule. Sometimes the schedule will include a PR contact, but mostly it does not.
  5. Plan what to wear: NYFW comes with the pressure of looking absolutely amazing. But, boo just do you and you will slay anyway, OK!
  6. Sign up for a FOHR card: If you haven’t heard of FOHR, go and sign up now! FOHR is a great platform for bloggers  where they help brands partner with influencers. FOHR also emails you about a few months prior to Fashion Week and ask if you will be attending as they may have brands who want to invite you to shows or events!

Now, lets discuss what I learned attending my first Fashion Week. While we were there, Marche and I talked about how attending NYFW in February was actually good for us in terms of getting our feet wet and learning what to do differently next time. Speaking of getting our feet wet, let me tell y’all about how I missed almost two days of my trip. The snowstorm of the darn year decided to hit New York the day my flight was to leave, which was last Thursday. My flight was cancelled TWICE!! Not only that, my airline didn’t have any other flights going out until that Sunday. Sunday y’all, the day I planned to return home! I was literally devastated. I’m like come on, I am so close!! Well, obviously I made it to New York as you can tell. I ended up buying another ticket by the grace of God, leaving that Friday afternoon with a connecting flight to New York. I didn’t touch down in NYC until 9:00 Friday night. So I missed about 3 events because of the storm. Thankfully, Marche went in my place to two of the events but still! I tried to remind myself to just make the most of it and move on (insert more of my tears here) lol.

So here’s what I learned:

  1. Try to come a day earlier and Don’t Overbook Yourself: We missed out on a few invites to shows because they were on Wednesday or Thursday morning. I suggest trying to maximize your trip as much as you can so you can get the most out of it. I also think its important to not be held down by a slew of show invites. One blogger I follow said she had FORTY shows to attend. FORTY!!! I’m sorry but thats too darn much. I am over 30 and I require my rest lol. But, my point is that you are in New York, enjoy it! Maybe take a day and just enjoy the city! Hit up all of the hot spots and restaurants, meet some fellow bloggers and hit the town to take pics! Who wants to go on a vacation only to be exhausted every day? Not me!
  2. Reach out to blog networks: Shopstyle, Bloglovin and Reward Style just to name a few, typically have events during Fashion Week! We didn’t consider reaching out to these networks and we should have. We were so focus on contacting brands we didn’t consider the actual networks in our outreach.
  3. Wear the Brand: If you love the brand, wear it on a few of your blog posts so that you have blog content to share with the brand when you reach out for a show invite. I adore many brands, but I feel if I focused a little more on having that brand’s clothing on my blog it would have given me a little edge on getting invites!
  4. Be Organized and Schedule Reminders on your phone: Y’all, this is where we messed up!! We missed a show that we REALLY wanted to attend because we didn’t have the time correct. By the time we realized it and made it to the presentation, it was over ( ok give me the cup of my tears now). So lesson learned, schedule all of your shows and appointments in your phone with an alert so that you don’t commit the same mistake. We thought we were organized, but clearly we were not. Don’t worry, we won’t do this again!!
  5. Reach out to local area businesses and try to do a brand collaboration: Content is king for a blogger!! So maximize your trip to New York and reach out to some companies there for a collaboration. Spa’s, restaurants, tourism board etc. We thought of this while walking back to our hotel lol. Again, so focused on show invites we didn’t consider other opportunities we could have scored.

All in all, I cannot complain one bit. I love learning lessons and applying them later. What you have to keep in mind is that these tips are nothing unless you go out there and apply them. So that means start now and get prepared by creating great content, build your following, remain consistent and work hard on being a great blogger. So when New York Fashion Week rolls around again you’ll be ready, prepared, hitting the shows and slaying while you work! Not bad at all girl, not bad at all!

Date Night at home is something that my husband and I do often. When you have a child, getting in a date night isn’t always easy. So most times we head to Pinterest or a recipe site and find a meal to cook together. Yes, TOGETHER honey!! Since we started dating, we have cooked lots of meals together and it really is a lot of fun. Now if your man isn’t use to the kitchen, thats ok! Get him in the kitchen and have him cook with you! Date night at home is about having fun, not being particular about what it looks like or how it should be done. After all, this is a date night activity. You’re not trying to impress anyone here. If anything, it makes for great laughs. Especially when a glass of wine or a cocktail is involved. Thats how you really get the party started right!

I thought it would be fun to share with you one of our go to meals. Typically we will do steaks with a side dish or seafood and side dish. In today’s post, I am sharing with you a salmon recipe I found online that I have been cooking for years. It has made its way to many of bbq’s and get togethers at our house. It’s so good, that even my husband boys are like, “Is T gonna make that salmon?!” Yep, its that good! The original recipe calls for it to be made on the grill, which is when you really get the best smoked flavor. But, you can also bake it in the oven at 375 for about 20 mins for 1.5 lbs of salmon.  Which is what I did in this post. I also like to sprinkle a little garlic salt and pepper on the salmon before it goes into the oven for extra flavor. Check out the salmon recipe HERE and tell me what you think!

Eric did a simple spinach and shrimp side that was soooo good! Its basically shrimp sautéed in the pan with olive oil, your desired seasonings, chopped onion (I’m the onion chopper in the relationship lol) and a splash of wine for flavor. He then added a bag of spinach and let it wilt down. Its so super good, quick and easy! Sometimes having a light meal is all you need without feeling weighed down for the night. Also, we sometimes like to make cocktails too!  Eric is the bartender in the relationship as mixing drinks is not my lane lol. So find fun drink recipes too and enjoy each others company!! Sometimes a tipsy wife makes for an even more fun evening if you catch that tea lol.

I really enjoyed this shoot! I pulled out my new camera and tripod, used a remote and shot away. The day of the shoot was super busy for me, so we got started later than I planned and I didn’t get a lot of natural light in. Blogger problems! But, hey sometimes its nice to not be “picture perfect” ALLLL the time. Sometimes life gets a little hazy, blurry and out of frame. Guess what, its really not that big of a deal. Enjoy the moments with your love and have fun! Life is what you make it, right??

Do you love posts like this date night at home? A little behind the scenes of what goes on in the Green household? Let me know, I’d love to do more post like this if you enjoy it!

See you soon for my next post!

Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and in order for me to feel full of love to give, I have to first show love to myself! Self care is SOOO important! Most times as a mom, I am giving to my child so much that I feel like I have nothing left to give to myself or others. But, in order for me to be my best self, I HAVE to have some me time. I know there are other moms out there feeling the same. So I reached out to my fellow blogger moms to see if they wanted to get together for a mommy spa day of getting pampered, relaxation and chit chat. After I received a “YES!” from them both (lol) I knew just where to go for our mommy spa day. My friend Kameisha Getum is the owner of Spa Lala in Dallas. She is also a mom, wife and business owner so she totally was on board with us getting a few treatments to be our best selves.

So let me tell you why you need to book an appointment at Spa Lala. Its a lovely spa suite so the setting is quite intimate, yet tranquil. Its very clean and welcomes a serene spa atmosphere. I received the dermaplaning facial, Eryn received a brow wax and tint by the on staff esthetician Camille. Taryn received lash extensions by Kameisha. I never heard of derma planing before which is basically where they use a small scalpel to remove the fine hairs from the face to create a smoother canvas for the skin. Camille advised me of the fab benefits which are brightening of the skin and reducing hyper pigmentation. I have normal to dry skin, so I don’t have many skin issues except this darn blemish from a pimple I decided to pop (I know, I know). However, the results from the facial were instant. My skin was brighter and smoother. When I applied my makeup later that day, my skin was even more FLAW-LESS! lol. We were all very pleased with the results of our services. Not only that, but the education and tidbits we learned by Kameisha and Camille regarding the services we received and how to maintain it were great too!

I want to focus this year on supporting more small businesses, especially black owned! I think its important that we keep those with the entrepreneur spirit in mind when it comes to our dollars. Spa Lala Dallas is the perfect place to support and get pampered too! Head to Taryn’s blog, Glamorous Versatility to see her thoughts and results of her eyelash extension and to Eryn’s blog, Style Sew Me, to see her brow tint/ wax!!

If you are in Dallas, be sure to make an appointment and mention that you heard about Spa Lala on our blogs. Kameisha, the owner of Spa Lala, is generously offering 20% off a full set of eyelash extensions, as well as, 20% off any facial service. Don’t say I never did nothing for ya!

Have a fabulous weekend! I’ll be headed to New York for my very first Fashion Week! Follow me on Instagram for all the tea and fashion!!
