5 Pc Newborn Gift Set by Its my Party Kids

How cute are these onesies by “Its My Party Kids?” I love anything personalized. Especially baby clothes! It makes it just more interesting and adorable if you ask me. When I saw all of the cute baby and toddler clothing “Its My Party Kids” had to offer, I knew I had to support! This particular set offers four onesies and one bib. The quality of the pieces are really nice and they are also super soft. My husband Eric particularly liked this set because of the crown with Xavier name on it. He sometimes call Xavier, King X! So it was only fitting of course!

Well, where to begin with the two month update? It seems like time has flown by and my baby is already two months. Xavier is so much more alert and interactive now. I truly love seeing him look at me intently, seeing his gummy smiles and also lifting his head like a champ! He just got his two month shots last week also. I was not looking forward to it. There is nothing great about seeing your helpless baby getting stuck with needles. I was prepared to have to deal with a cranky baby all day. But, he pulled through it like a champ! After his shots he took a long nap. We basically cuddled and nursed all day long. There’s nothing like a mothers touch to make things all better, right?

It seems like everyone wants to know if Xavier is sleeping through the night yet. The answer is absolutely not! Its been very difficult during this newborn hazing phase for me to get any rest. You know people always say to sleep when the baby is sleep? Well, thats a load of bull. By the time I decide to lay down for a nap, he wakes right up. There’s so much to try to get done in a day.  For instance, getting a chance to sit down and eat lunch or even take a shower. So getting a nap always seems to come last. I honestly don’t expect Xavier to sleep through the night just yet. He’s still a newborn and if I recall correctly, Camille didn’t sleep through the night until she was about four months old. So I am giving it time and pushing through it. Coffee has been my best friend and my right hand man! The bags under my eyes are heavy, but I know this phase won’t last forever. Thank the Lord!

Xavier has been picking up weight pretty nicely. He was 5.5 pounds at birth and at his 8 week check up, he now weighs 10 pounds! It makes me feel amazing that my baby is plumping up so nicely on my breast milk alone. Breast feeding is very important to me. I breastfed Camille until my supply slowed down which was around 11 months. I plan to breast feed Xavier  until a year, if possible. Breast feeding can be challenging! I remember with Camille, it took about a month or so before I got the hang of it. With Xavier, now that I know what to expect, its second nature to me. I’m praying our journey last until a year as he is my last baby.  So I want to soak up this special bonding experience for as long as possible.

How do you like the onesies by “Its My Party Kids?”

Target “Universal Trend” White Sandal

The contrast stitch trend this summer is one that I am loving. From dresses, pants, skirts and jackets everyone can easily participate in this trend. I think what I love about it is the black and white stitching. It really makes a statement and adds interest to a classic color combo.

I first happened across this trend on Zara’s website and fell in love with the skirt I have on. I loved that it was a wrap, midi skirt and the white stitching against the black. Of course, I loved it even more when it went on major sale at Zara! Its no longer available, but I linked another contrast stitch skirt dupe for you to pick up as well! There are a few other contrast stitch pieces I would love to add to my closet such as a wide leg pant. If I am able to find a good pair, I will be sure to let you know. It would be perfect to carry into the fall season.

Let’s talk about these sandals. They are a Hermes “Oran” dupe without the $750 price tag! I’ve been loving the Hermes version, but its so out of my price range. I happened to be in Target one day and found these sandals. They definitely fit my price range and are super comfy as well. I loved the white as its perfect for summer. It also comes in tan too which I am thinking about picking up as well. Target is such a dangerous place to shop. I am always finding things I don’t need. But, I simply refuse to leave behind for such a good price. Who else is a Target fan?

What do you think about the contrast stitch trend?

I think the contrast stitch is not a super trendy look. You can definitely make it a staple piece in your wardrobe. There are so many ways to wear it. You can keep the black and white look throughout the outfit or add a pop of color like I did here with the orange/rust top. Also, another Zara sale find too! Zara holds the key to my heart you guys!!

So are you here for the contrast stitch trend?

We all know the power of a good blazer right? Well if you didn’t, let me enlighten you. Blazers have a way of ticking off that missing piece when you need to pull a look together. It adds clean lines, gives a polished look and make you look like a BOSS! Who doesn’t want that? I always been a blazer girl, but quite honestly I’ve been slacking in building my wardrobe of this transitional and functional piece. I think I have one or two blazers now as I have given quite a few away. So when I saw this blazer was a part of the huge Zara summer sale, I knew I had to have it. Its lightweight, a gorgeous color and at an incredible price. Add to cart please!!

I know you may think that blazers are only for Fall and Winter. But that is not so my dear! Dependent on the fabric, you can wear a blazer year ’round. Its a great layering piece to have in your closet, so be sure to look out for a good one year around.

Where are your favorite places to shop for blazers?

Zara offers some gorgeous blazers at good prices. H&M and ASOS usually have some good ones too. Also,  check out thrift and consignment shops too for more affordable options! I’ve rounded up tons of blazers I’m sure you would love for a great price! I am excited for Fall to arrive in Dallas so I can pair my blazers with jeans, dresses and skirts. So many possibilities my friends!

Happy Weekend!

The clear handbag has been all the rage this summer. You may have seen it as a tote bag, clutch and everyday bag. I absolutely love the clear handbag. But, I’ve seen it cost as much as $500!! I don’t know about you, but I am not paying $500 for a piece of vinyl. Of course, I found a look for less option! Guess what, its only $12!!! Yes girl, $12! Now you can participate in clear handbag trend without breaking the bank. Ball on a budget!!

This white shirtdress has been on the blog quite a few times (HERE) and (HERE).. Its such a great piece to have in your closet that you can layer with come Spring and beginning of Fall. This is an oldie from J. Crew Factory. I’ve linked some similar options for you as well. I say every girl needs a good white shirtdress in her closet. You can rock it with a denim jacket, layer it with a v neck sweater or put a tube top over it for a totally different look.

These white lace up sandals are from this Summer Zara sale. I had my eye on these babies all summer long, but wasn’t sure if I wanted another white shoe in my closet. When I saw it was apart of the Zara sale, I knew it was meant to be. I’ve gotten non stop compliments on these shoes. They are so cute on! They are no longer available at Zara, but keep your eye out for white sandals as the Summer sales are wrapping up. You may find a cute pair for next Summer or to wear now! Why not?!

How do you feel about the clear handbag trend?

Are you here for it or nah? I love that this one comes with a smaller, detachable clutch inside so you can’t see the items in the bag!

Hey Loves!!

Wow, its been a while since my last post! Things have been very busy around here at the Green household. For one, we welcomed my son, Xavier Drew Green, into the world on June 25, 2018!! We are trying to find our new normal with a newborn in the house. Let me tell you, its no joke! Camille is a wonderful big sister! She is very helpful and loves her baby brother so much. As for me, I am recovering just fine! It’s an adjustment to get use to sleepless nights. Not to mention managing a toddler as well as a newborn!! It’s a struggle, but its worth it knowing my family of four is complete. I asked you all on Instagram if you wanted to read my birth story! 100% of you said yes! So sit back, relax and read how Xavier decided to enter the world and change our lives forever!

Sunday night, June 24th, at 39 weeks 2 days, I started having strong contractions around 11:30 pm! They were about five mins apart, then to 10 then to 8 mins for over an hour. Hubby called our hospital to let them know and they said to come in if we would like. I recall with Camille that my contractions were very sporadic. We weren’t even sure if I was really experiencing labor or Braxton Hicks contractions with Camille. But, with Xavier, the contractions were very much consistent, time wise! We knew we better leave ASAP because they got stronger and closer together. It hurt like heck and I couldn’t talk thru them much less breathe thru them. So I knew the time was coming!

We got ready to leave for hospital and woke Camille up from bed. At this point it was almost 2am!! We drove to the hospital, contractions coming faster and stronger!! The pain was so unbearable, I was gripping the car door with all my might. In looking back, I don’t  recall the pain being that bad with Camille. It seemed like it was taking forever to get to the hospital. I remember telling Eric to hurry up and drive! LOL. Our hospital is only 15 minutes away, but I swear it felt like forever!  We finally made it to the  hospital. Eric pulled up to the door and ran in to get me a wheelchair. I’m having contractions in the wheelchair and trying to breathe thru them. Eric had to park the car so I was waiting for him and Camille to walk in. As I wait in the lobby, I felt a gush and felt like I peed on myself. Omg, my water broke!

We made it to L&D floor and they check me in. In my mind, everyone was moving at a snails pace. I told them my water broke and I had to go to the bathroom. The nurses let me go to the bathroom and I had to walk myself to the bed. I found that so crazy that they weren’t helping me walk to my bed. Like hello, my water just broke! I know they are Labor and Delivery nurses and have seen it all, but I needed someone to understand my strife and help me lol.

Well, they check my cervix and I’m already 7cm dilated and 100% effaced! I told them I wanted an epidural. They kept taking forever finding my vein for IV. It took THREE attempts. Yes, THREE! Imagine having contractions and someone trying to poke you with a needle too. Not fun! Again, it seemed like no one was in a hurry to get me this IV put in so that I could get an epidural. While laying in bed, I’m shaking from pain and fear. I began to feel fluid pouring out. I tell them, so they check me again and I’m already 9 cm!! At that time my contractions were now 2 mins apart!! They called the on call doc to tell her to come (mind you I thought that was already done 30 mins ago when I arrived). My nurses also told me that the doctor lives about 20 minutes away. Excuse me, what?! Who is not holding this baby in so that a doctor can get here is me! Let’s get this over with! Lol.

I start to feel pressure and they check again. I’m 9.5!! They tell me they can try to give the epidural, but it may not take and I would have to do it natural. I cried because I’m absolutely terrified at the thought of natural birth. Especially since the pain I was experiencing was so terrible. I’ve always planned to have an epidural and was not mentally prepared to have a natural birth. But, I had no choice at this point. They check me again and I’m 10cm! Hallelujah! The doctor came in just in time and they tell me time to push.

I push for about four attempts. I am shaking, terrified and in so much pain. Camille is at the nurses station while this is going on, so we’re good there. They tell me to push again and it feels like HELL. It was hard to focus on the end goal because the pain was so unbearable. I was so scared. I scream and tell them I cant do it! My husband is trying to encourage me, but again I’m so scared. I was screaming “someone please help me!” I can laugh about it now, but thats how I really felt at the moment. The doctor tells me that his head is almost out so its time to push as hard as I can. I push hard and I feel the “ring of fire” pain that I heard about with natural labor. Its hard to explain, but I felt it. After I give that one big push, I hear “here he is, You did it!!”

I couldn’t even open my eyes to look at him when they pull him out because I was so miserable and upset with how painful everything was. I couldn’t believe that it was actually over! It seemed like there wasn’t going to be an end to the labor. But, of course it was! They hand him to me and I finally  look down to the cutest little baby boy I ever did see!

Xavier Drew Green, 5 pounds 5 oz, born June 25th at 3:12am. I started contractions June 24th, 11:30pm and he arrived June 25th 3:12 a.m. A very quick labor! He’s absolutely perfect! Xavier Drew is already at 8 pounds as of his 5 week appointment this past week. I love this little man so much!

Are there plans for any more children in the future?

This is the last child for Eric and I. I am so thankful that God has blessed us with two, beautiful children. After this labor, all I have to say is, women we rock!! The things are bodies can do such as bring life into this world is absolutely amazing!! I am glad I was able to experience the gift of having children. Now the goal is to raise God fearing, intelligent and responsible children in the world we live in today. Please pray for my husband and I as we do just that!

Hello Loves!

I remember being pregnant with Camille, I  wanted the perfect, stylish diaper bag. Especially with having a girl! I just imagined myself walking through the mall or park with my baby in my stroller and my super cute diaper bag in arm. Ha! I can look back at that now and laugh. After I had Camille and actually had to utilize a diaper bag, it wasn’t the most functional and easy bag to carry. It was super difficult trying to manage a stroller, squeezing the diaper bag into the basket or hanging it on the stroller. Let’s not even mention the times I was just carrying the car seat and the diaper bag sliding off my arm every five minutes. I hated it! It started to become such a hassle to carry around, I would often times leave it in the car and just grab the essentials.

I recall Eric and I getting ready to take our first airplane trip with Camille as a baby to visit my brother in law in Chicago. She was about four months old. As a new parent, I spent so much time going over every detail making sure I packed what Camille needed for a successful trip.  I made sure to have a baby carrier on hand so I could just baby wear her in the airport while Eric dealt with the car seat, stroller and other things. I did not want to deal with carrying my diaper bag while trying to manage the chaos of travel and baby wearing Camille. While I was out shopping,  I stumbled upon diaper backpacks. I don’t know what rock I was living under, but I knew it had to be easier to travel with a backpack versus a tote bag. You guys, total game changer! From then on, I carried my diaper backpack all the time. Life was much easier!

My diaper backpack I wore at the time has now seen better days. After getting pregnant this second time around, I kept hearing and reading good things about Ju-Ju-Be Diaper Bags. I knew I wanted a versatile bag to carry Xavier’s essentials as well as things for Camille and I too. So many moms were saying they loved the quality of the Ju-Ju-Be bags! They loved how easy it was to keep clean, plenty of pockets and easy access to different compartments. Well, low and behold when I went to check them out, I saw they also offered diaper backpacks. Yay!

What are some of the Ju-Ju-Be Diaper Bag features?

So I am very happy that I was able to partner with Ju-Ju-Be and share with you all their bags. They also offer accessories such as changing pads, pacifier pods, bottle bags, pumping bags & more.  The price point for a diaper backpack is about $155. Another thing I like about the backpacks are the ergonomic backpack straps!  This is perfect for me because I sometimes suffer from back pains. Also, the fabric is made of Teflon, perfect for repelling stains. It also features two exterior insulated pockets to keep bottles warm or cold. Another great feature is that the backpack opens fully out, so you can easily see and access whats in your bag. I love this because sometimes you have to dig and dig to try to find anything thats fallen to the bottom of your backpack. So annoying!

I absolutely love the style that I selected too. Its called the “Be Right Back” Diaper Backpack in the Versailles style. I love the print and color, its really gender neutral in my opinion. Although Eric begs to differ. In fact, he said this backpack reminds him of the “New Kanye.” Lmbo and my argument was that its absolutely not the “New Kanye,” its the “Old Kanye!!” There is a huge difference people!  Lol.

Whats in my diaper bag?

I thought I would also share with you what’s in my diaper bag! This is so helpful for new moms or moms who haven’t had a baby in a while. Even I had to go back and research to see what I should pack in his diaper bag!

  1. Change of clothes: at least 2-3 onesies or sets that baby can change into in the event of spills, blow outs or change of weather.
  2. Pacifier: For me, I love the Wubba Nubba paci! It comes with a plush toy animal attached to the pacifier which helps to easily find paci and also baby can easily grab themselves. I swear by this paci because we were always able to keep track of it and it never rolled off anywhere.
  3.  Ziplock bags/trash bags: you know, in case of a tragic blow out!
  4. Diapers
  5. Burp Cloths: about 2-3
  6. Nursing Cover
  7. Changing Pad: I like the Ju-Ju-Be one as its memory foam and I also throw in a few disposable changing pads too!
  8. Socks
  9. Disposable Tee-Pees: I am having a boy and I don’t want to get squirted on!
  10. Baby Wipes
  11. Anti Bacterial wipes and spray: to wipe down those gross changing tables in bathrooms and a travel size antibacterial spray to sanitize it!
  12. Muslin Swaddle Blankets or Receiving Blankets

I hope this post was helpful. If you are not expecting, but know of a mom to be who is, send them this blog post! I am sure they would love to check out the Ju-Ju-Be products and also get an idea of what to pack in their little one diaper bag! Not to mention this bag would make a great baby shower gift too!

Hey loves!

Well, I am 37 weeks pregnant! I can’t believe how fast time is flying. It seems like I just announced to you all I was pregnant back in January! Pregnancy has a way of being beautiful, amazing and awful and dreadful all at the same time. Lol, I was so sick up until about 20 weeks pregnant. I also ended up with the flu and a sinus infection too. Oh, and diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Yeah, these past 9 months have not been so lovely. However, I’d do it all again just to have my little baby here with me.

Motherhood has a way of giving you a new outlook on life. You guys already see how I am with Camille. She is my shining joy and I don’t know how life would be without her. I am terribly nervous about having a second child because all Camille knows is being an only child. Thats all we know too as her parents. The adjustment I know may be a little difficult. But, she is SUPER excited to become a big sister! Just the other day she told me her baby brother is coming on Father’s Day. Now, I am not due until June 30th, but does she know something we don’t? I guess we’ll find out soon!

Last week I started experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions which I did not experience in my last pregnancy with Camille. It was not a fun experience let me tell you! Also, I have been dealing with a leg cramp for the past four days too. So far, I am only 1 cm dilated, but as we know with any pregnancy, things can change quick! I had Camille at 38 weeks so I am keeping in mind that Xavier may come early as well. Eric and I decided to place a bet on when Xavier arrives. I said by the 20th, Eric is betting on the 24th. Please cross your fingers that I win! I requested that he cleans the kitchen for a month! Lol.

As time is winding up with my final pregnancy, I’ve decided to spend these last few weeks trying to enjoy some time to myself. Just quiet time reflecting and enjoying the peace and quiet around me. I plan to take myself to breakfast, finish reading a book, grab a coffee at Whole Foods in the morning. Just simple things that I usually take for granted on the days Camille goes to school. When Xavier gets here, those days of having time to myself alone will be far and few. Although him and I will have our bonding time which I am excited about, I still want to enjoy those little moments of just me. Alone in my own thoughts or reading a book dreaming up the characters and plots, deciding how the story will end. Do you guys have those moments where you just enjoy being alone? I sure do!

But, lets discuss this Free People dress!

It’s simply a head turner. I’ve gotten so many compliments and stops/stares at this dress. My friend Renae from Renae Style Diary wore it when we were out taking pics of each other for our blogs. She had it in white and told me she found it at Marshalls for $40!!! I fell in love with hers as soon as I saw it. Just my luck, about a month later I saw the dress at Marshalls but in this gorgeous purple shade. I am wearing a size medium, so I have some room for the belly. It is a short dress, so I put on some denim shorts underneath. However, you can wear it as a cute mini dress just fine. I am sure a small would probably fit me better once I am no longer pregnant. If you can’t find this dress at your local Marshall’s, I was able to find it for you in blue!!! Its linked above!! Grab this dress quick as there are only a few sizes left!!! I am considering getting the blue one myself!

**Updated to add: I found the dress in purple but not for the price I paid, I also found it on eBay for a little less. Its linked  above too! **

So, whats to come with AFL blog in the next few weeks?

I hope that I can get in a few more blog posts before he arrives. Sunday I’ll be sharing with you whats in my diaper bag and maybe another style related post for next week. Thats if I can fit anything at that point.  When he does come, I don’t think I will be able to post as often as I would like. Of course, I will be adjusting to my new normal. But, the blog will still go on! Just give me some time to get settled in and adjusted.

Also, have you seen Xavier’s Little Man Cave Nursery reveal? If not, be sure to click the link! I am so thrilled that it came out as wonderful as it did. I can’t wait to hold him and rock him to sleep in his room. So many sweet and crazy moments are to come. I am excited and grateful for all of them!

Hey There!

I’m so excited to finally share the nursery reveal of my little man! Xavier Drew is his name to be exact!  The room is such a dramatic transformation in my opinion because it was once Camille’s room. So there was pink and white everywhere! Especially, the walls! I knew the walls would have to be the first thing done in order to makeover the room for Xavier’s arrival.

As always, I went to my local Sherwin Williams to pick out some paint strips to get this party started! My entire home is painted in Sherwin William’s paint. Since we moved in about six years ago, we painted majority of our home with Sherwin Williams. So I was so happy to partner with Sherwin Williams for Xavier’s nursery reveal! I knew they offered quality paint I could trust would be safe and non toxic for his room. We selected “Eider White” from their “Harmony” Interior Acrylic Latex Paint collection. Harmony Interior Acrylic Latex line contains new technology that helps improve indoor air quality by reducing VOC levels from your carpet, cabinets and fabrics. It also allows you to wash your walls and maintain a durable finish which makes it perfect for children and pets!

Let’s Check Out the Before!!

As you can see, everything was quite girly of course! I knew I wanted to maintain the same layout that we had with furniture in Camille’s old room. This room has a lot of angled walls, so furniture layout is already limited. The only thing this room really needed was some paint, crib and a dresser! But, it was really hard for me to see this space transformed from a super girly pink room into a “boy nursery” for Xavier. Oh, excuse the mess in Camille’s room. I was in the process of getting rid of a lot of her old stuff too! Its been crazy in the Green household as you can see!

Before: Room is also painted in Sherwin Williams color but I don’t know the shade.

The After: Xavier Drew’s Little Man Cave!

How do you like the wall color? The “Eider White” paint is not pure white, it has a gray undertone to it which we usually lean towards when it comes to home decor and paint. This room gets a lot of light during the morning time, but usually is more shaded around noon and the rest of the day. The color of the paint shown in the pics should give you a good indication of what to expect. But, just know this paint color will definitely depend upon how much light comes into the room. You can have a light gray one moment and a subtle white the next! I really do like the color as it lightens and brightens up the room. Now I can’t even remember the room being pink!

You guys, I love his room so much! It took us a while to wrap up this room because I just could not find what I was looking for. Majority of the nursery decor I found for boys are Animal themed, Nautical, Woodland etc. It just did not move me and I knew I didn’t want that kind of theme for his room. Let me tell you, this room literally came together about two weeks ago!

We ordered the crib a few months back, but I did not know what dresser to choose as his crib is a light gray shade. I knew I wanted to go with the Ikea Hemnes 8 drawer dresser as its so affordable. We loved using it as a changing table too when Camille was a baby. I also didn’t want his entire nursery to be gray, so I went back and forth on the decision to get the Ikea Hemnes dresser in gray too. I’m so glad we did, it really jump started the color scheme in the room which was to bring in navy. Eric wanted navy in his room, but I just didn’t see it. But, I knew we needed a darker shade to balance out all of the gray.  But, once I found the navy curtains, I was finally inspired on how to decorate the room!

I also spray painted the white bookshelves navy and the white bookends an antique copper shade too. I wanted to warm up the wall space as well. His gallery wall definitely gives me all the feels. We were finally able to complete it this week as that was the last design element in the room. It definitely brings the entire room together. I feel as though his room is slightly rustic with a bit of a industrial feel to it. It definitely gives me “Little Man Cave” vibes. What do you think?

Have you tried Sherwin Williams paint?

Its a brand I have used for years for all of my paint projects. I definitely recommend you try it if you have not already!

Hey loves!

Instagram has been a little source of contention for me lately. Instagram six/seven years ago was fun. There wasn’t the pressure of getting a ton of likes, followers or anything. I was inspired and intrigued by the images posted and the people themselves behind the camera. But now?? I find myself rolling my eyes at the things people do for likes and follows. I started to wonder why I was becoming so annoyed with my beloved Instagram. Then it came to me, it’s not the images themselves that were starting to annoy me, but the person behind the lens. Yes, thats right the Influencer or blogger that is “getting on my nerves.” Hear me out!

Now this post isn’t to bash anyone or hold anyone responsible for not keeping my interest on Instagram. But, I am sure we all at the age where we can tell someone is not their “cup of tea” or hey, we just do not have anything in common! Thats mainly why my unfollow game became so strong. I started to notice people personalities (maybe lack there of) and their overall vibe which forced me to question, “who the heck am I following?”

I’m not asking for you to entertain me or meet a certain level of expectation. But really, who are you?  Most of the accounts I follow on Instagram are fashion bloggers or influencers. So yes, it can get a bit repetitive in seeing similar styles and looks because it seems no one is an individual anymore. I digress, thats a whole other blog post! But, I’m just getting to the point where I want to know who you are behind all the pretty pictures. Feel me?

So who do I unfollow on Instagram?!

There are some bloggers who basically just sell their outfits of the day or promote their blog posts ALL THE DARN TIME.  You are pretty much the sales person I walk around to avoid at the store because I am not in the mood to be bothered. Every caption on Instagram is about the top you’re wearing, your Instagram stories is about telling people you have a new blog post up and to sign up for LiketoKnow.It. just about every week. Meanwhile, I don’t even know if you have a dog, cat or a goldfish. Isn’t there anything else about you besides you trying to earn likes, follows and commission sales?  This is why I unfollow on Instagram! I’ve had to hit the unfollow button on these Influencers so many times. I just simply cannot!

Let’s discuss those bloggers who will not respond to any questions in their comments or DMs. I also know quite a few bloggers who literally have said in their stories, “do not DM me about what I am wearing, head to my blog and go to my “SHOP” page to find out.” What?! This is such a huge, missed opportunity to properly engage with your audience. I do understand that some bloggers have a tremendous following, so they may not be able to respond to every DM about a pair of shoes they have on. But, I was taught, “its not what you say, its HOW you say it!” Its your followers that are helping you to pay for that Chanel bag or your rent and car payment each month. Treat us with a little decency. Actually, don’t even worry about it. Let me hit that unfollow button! Bye!

Here’s a quick one that I just had to understand and move on from. Influencers who only wear high end designers that I’ll never be able to afford (cause, you know I got daycare bills the amount of a mortgage payment over here).  Who wears a lace cami or satin top for $600 with a pair of jeans or a summer dress thats $900 that literally has me at “hello!” I’m sure I could find a look for less, but obviously your brand is not catering for my high-low, I’ll wear a Target piece with a quickness self. So why am I here? Let me move on and unfollow on Instagram! Its been real girl!

Ok, here’s a hard one that I gotta keep it real about. The ones who captions beg for sympathy and empathy basically all the darn time. I mean, whats really going on over there girl? Are you just going through a bad season in life or is this you every single day? Because I can keep you lifted in prayer, but are you popping up on my feed with signs of depression or some issues you need to let go and let God…. Y’all don’t come for me on this one. I honestly question if people are doing this to increase likes and get engagement on an Instagram post. Again, I’ve had to unfollow on Instagram. I can’t have this kind of negativity and bad energy come up every time I log into Instagram. I told you my unfollow game is strong. I’m not playing!

How do you feel about my thoughts on Instagram?

I know this blog post is unexpected. But, I feel by now you guys know I try to switch it up on the blog and discuss some topics that have been on my mind. My friend always laugh at me when I tell her “oh I unfollowed them” because she know I don’t play with entertaining the foolery lol. I just think its important to show people different facets of who you are. What makes you laugh? What’s important to you? Are you a foodie? Whats your favorite cocktail? What do you do to unwind or what you cooked for dinner? Something, anything to let us know that you have other interests other than what you present on Instagram. You know–in the perfect lighting, with the perfect filter and telling me to buy your shirt and it comes in five different colors. Insert eye roll here.

Ok, I’ve ranted long enough! Let me know your thoughts!

Happy belated Mother’s Day to all of you mommy’s out there!

Mother’s Day is usually a weekend of reflection for me. Mainly because my mother passed away several years ago, so its always a difficult time to take in, accept even. For some of us, we don’t have the gift of taking our mom’s out for brunch, or snapping pictures showing how much we love and appreciate our mothers. We only have the memories that we hold on tight to daily and try to push through the day as much as we can. I always encourage anyone as often as I can to tell their mother they love them. It’s the absolute worst thing in life to lose your mom. What you don’t want is there to be any words left unsaid. I know that sometimes there is strife or wrong doing that some folks have suffered from their mother or you may have to love them from afar. But, if you can just drop those three little words in when you can, you’re giving yourself a gift!! Just in knowing that your mom knew how much you loved her, no matter what!

What has saved me from most of the pain of no longer having my mother here on earth, is having Camille. Being a mother is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Period! Its saved me in a lot of ways! I often doubted why God would take my mother away, why me? When Eric and I was trying for a child, it was not easy! We went through some difficulty and I questioned my faith in God. I grew up in church all my life and I knew that I had to hold on to my faith as tight as I could. Because if I let go…….!!! That little bit of mustard seed faith I had in wanting a child was just enough.  I became pregnant and was blessed with Camille! It showed me that God was listening! He heard my cries and my prayers!! Going forward, I saw that He never left me alone. He was right by my side and saw the desires of my heart! You guys can clearly see that she is my greatest gift from God, I’ll never take it for granted!!

Motherhood can be amazing, exhausting, scary and thrilling all wrapped up into one. Often times I wonder, am I a good mother? Did I lose my temper too quick? Am I not patient enough? Did I scold her instead of talking to her about what she did wrong? Am I spoiling her too much? We have a lot of fears as mothers, after all we don’t want to screw up the most important job in the world!

In today’s world filled so full of beauty standards, social media and just straight out racism, I wonder how can I empower my child to stay true to herself? To understand that she is beautiful, strong, intelligent and worthy of everything else she desires? My mom always said, “the world is getting wiser and weaker.” Y’all the “weaker” part scares me! We see it daily! So how do we ensure we impart wisdom and knowledge to our children so they don’t get caught up in the foolishness? I know I am not alone in these thoughts, right?

In a few weeks, my son will make his presence on this earth. My son! Those words are a little scary to me, because I feel like I’m such a girl mom. But, this is another layer of motherhood I will have to experience that I am nervous about. Raising a strong, black man in today’s America is scary! As an African American, its scary times right now! I don’t want my son to be seen as a threat, I want him to be seen as the child of God that he is! My prayer is that God truly gives me the wisdom and knowledge to raise my kids. I want them to break barriers, be educated individuals, make sound and wise decisions. I want them to do better than mommy and daddy. After all, that is the goal for each generation to succeed the prior one right?

What are your thoughts on Motherhood in today’s society?

I know this is not my usual fashion blog post. But, these thoughts have been on my heart for a while. You know how it is, sometimes we just don’t know how to say it or express it. I would love to hear any encouraging words you have regarding motherhood today. As they say it takes a village to raise a child. That’s the kind of positive, strong community we all need to make it through this thing called motherhood!

Share your thoughts!
