Hi Everyone!

Happy 2019!!

I cant believe how fast 2018 came and went. But, its a new year and I am thankful to see all that it has to offer. I have been posting my looks more so on Instagram than here on the blog. With the business of the holidays, I just didnt want to bother drafting a blog post. But, I am back!

I’m not going to write a post about my 2019 goals. This year, my husband and I decided to focus on a theme for our family which is, “JUST DO IT!!” Often times him and I will talk about things we plan on doing and dont do anything to get it done or crossed off the list. I think him and I are ready to move on to bigger and better things in our lives like buying a new home and getting some financial goals set. So we decided to challenge ourselves and focus in 2019 of getting this done. Does that ever happen to you, where you are just tired of talking about it and you are ready to be about it? Yeah, thats us right now!

Anyhoo, this plaid “dress” is actually a trench coat. I don’t understand how because nothing about it says its heavy enough to be just that. So I decided to wear it as a dress! I paired some cute tights with it and a bold ankle bootie. Which I am obsessed with the look and comfort of this boot. Definitely pick up a pair…. or two!

Hey Loves!

Let’s talk quickly about this Zara snakeskin dress dupe before Xavier wakes up from his nap! This dupe is by Shein and its only $22!! The Zara original is about $70, so obviously this is a good steal. There are a few differences in comparison to the Zara original, so lets discuss!

What are the differences between the Zara & Shein version?

The Shein version of this snakeskin dress is about ankle length in comparison to the Zara midi, mid knee length. It also only buttons to about mid thigh, so this is a dress you’d want to pair with leggings or jeans as I did, unless you want to wear a slip or get more buttons added to wear it as an actual dress. Another difference is that the belt on the Shein version does not come with a buckle. Its just a fabric belt. Lastly, the lining on the inside of this dress is white which you can see face forward (see 3rd pic down), as the dress doesn’t button all the way down. I wish the inside of the dress was the same snakeskin print so that its more cohesive.

Not all dupes are created equal, this dress is great but those differences may matter to those of you who want an exact dupe. Again, my only qualm is with the white material on the inside shows since its not buttoned all the way down.

Anyhoo, Xavier just woke up so I gotta go, lol. Mom life!

Its the most wonderful time of the year…. for Fashion in my opinion anyway. I adore wearing beautiful coats and boots during this season. Dallas does get cold during the winter, it may not be consistent or last as long as it does up north. So please understand how excited I get to break out my coats and knee boots. I was so into the over the knee boot craze for the past few years, that I believe I’m over it. Especially when I laid eyes on these Nine West beauties a few weeks back!!

These knee boots are even more beautiful in person: they are black, but color block in camel, navy and gray suede. The heel height is about 4 inches and they are comfortable as well. They are only available in size 5 on Nine West site. However, I found them for you on Zappos. So be sure to grab these asap before they sell out!

This coat is another stunner! The colors in this coat goes so well with my boots! I will say this coat is not heavy, its more like a car coat or a topper in the sense that the weight of the coat is in comparison to a heavy cardigan. So I wouldn’t wear this in 30 degree temps with the expectation of being kept nice and warm. But, its a great transitional piece to carry into the winter season!!

Let’s talk lipsticks! I love a good one and typically reach for one rather than gloss. So I thought it would be fun to share with you today some of my favorite MAC lipsticks! I feel like MAC lipsticks are typically consistent and never fails me. I own about 20 so far. But, these are my top five or six lipsticks that I constantly reach for and love every time I put it on! I think my favorites covers every shade one typically looks for when it comes to lipstick shade: red, nude, browns, mauve and dark. As a woman of color, its so important for me to see how a lipstick shade will translate on my skin tone. Lets face it, not all nude lipsticks are created equal! So I think I have a nude shade a lot of you will love! From matte to satin finish and shade variety, MAC lipsticks typically fit the bill and gets my coin. It is what it is people!!

So lets break down each shade and why I love it shall we?

MAC lipstick in “Chili”

I know some of you are surprised that I did not say the very popular “Ruby Woo” by MAC. I have “Ruby Woo” and never reach for it. “Ruby Woo” has a blue undertone to it and I like my red lipsticks to have more of an orange base rather than blue. I feel like orange base reds suits my skin color better and I always love how it looks on me. “Chili” has a matte finish and I usually pair it with any red lip liner I have in my vanity.

MAC lipstick in “FreckleTone”

This is like a peachy nude shade and I love it so much. Its like your lips but better! I love it on my skin tone. The peachy tone stands out, but not in a crazy way. Every time I wear it, I’m always so surprised by how good it looks! I usually pair this with “Cork” lipliner by MAC. But, you don’t really need to do a lipliner in my opinion. Freckle tone is a satin finish. Sadly, its discontinued! The nerve (clutches pearls)!! I’ll link a dupe for you below at the end of this post.

MACs “Freckletone”

This shade is a pretty mauve tone that I purchased earlier this year. I love mauve lip shades and was in search for the perfect one. This isn’t exactly what I am looking for, but pretty darn close. Its like a deep raspberry shade and I really love how it looks on my lips. I paired this with a neutral color lipliner, so you really don’t need a lipliner to match this exactly. Its a satin finish and just gorgeous on! Grab it ladies!

MAC lipstick in “Verve”

Verve is a hard shade to describe. So I had to go to MAC website to help me out. Its described as a muted brownish plum and they are exactly right. The brown undertones definitely pops against my skin tone. Honestly, I cant pinpoint exactly why I like this shade, but it always looks so good on and stays in my purse! Verve is a satin finish lipstick. I pair this with “Cork” lipliner.

MACs “Verve”

MAC lipstick in “Whirl”

Y’all, I love Whirl! I forgot I had this shade and found it in my bag the other day. Its another brown but not as deep as Verve. It has more of a reddish brown tint to it. Its just so darn pretty! Whirl also has its own lipliner so I pair it with it as well. Whirl is a matte shade and I just checked MAC website and its described as a dirty rose, not a reddish brown like I just did. Ok, whatever its just a darn good one! Give it a go!

MACs “Whirl”

Its vampy, its sexy, its perfect for Fall! I recently grabbed this and had to add it to my list. Its so pretty! Its described as a creamy plum and has a satin finish. I paired it with “Nightingale” lipliner and it looked perfect. This is a statement lipstick that I would wear for a night out. But, if you wanna rock it for daytime, go right ahead girl! Everyone will be asking what is that lipstick you’re wearing because its so good!

MAC lipliners in “Cork, Nightingale and Whirl”

Ok, so “Cork” has been around FOR-EVER! I remember having it in high school (1998-2000) and wearing it with “C-thru” lipglass. The combo everybody and they mama was rocking back then. Cork is perfect lipliner to pair with lipstick shades that are too bright or light and you need to transition or blend the shades together. Unfortunately, “Cork” is being discontinued. Why?! I did manage to find one retailer who still has it in stock, which I linked below. So stock up if you can! I have “Chestnut” but its a bit too dark for my skin tone. Nightingale is perfect for your deep vampy shades and Whirl is a good pinky tone neutral liner you can rock too. Out of these three, I’d highly recommend Cork. I wear it so much and can’t be without it! I’ll definitely have to get a few before they are no longer available.

Hey Loves!

I thought it would be a great idea to share my recent dining experience at KAI Asian Bistro at Legacy West in Plano, Texas. Its nothing like having a great dining experience and discovering new gems in your local area. The Legacy West area in Plano has been bustling with new restaurant openings for the past few years. I feel that KAI is a welcomed addition to the new Legacy West’s retail and restaurant development. The diverse menu options has something for everyone from dim sum, robata, ribs and of course sushi. There is truly something for everyone! Especially myself since I do not eat raw sushi lol. I was given the opportunity to dine at KAI and let me tell you, everything was delicious! The food, service and the ambiance made for a wonderful evening with a friend.

Check out my video HERE to see for yourself all of the tasty food we ate that night. My favorite was the calamari and the pork ribs. But, everything was soooo good! If you are ever in the Plano, Texas area, stop by Legacy West and head to KAI Asian Bistro. I’m already plotting my return back!!

Last week, October 3rd, Eric and I celebrated 9 years of marriage! Boy, time flies when you’re having fun and living life with the one you love. We were finally able to celebrate our anniversary last night because you know, kids will delay all of your plans lol. But, we had the most amazing anniversary celebration meal at Perry’s Steakhouse in Frisco, Texas. If you’re ever in the Dallas area, this restaurant should be at the top of your list of restaurants to visit!

You guys, everything was simply delish!! We enjoyed tasting some of their speciality cocktails and offerings that are also available on their main menu, such as the tempura fried lobster, beef & bleu crostini and last but not least, the famous Perry’s pork chop. I mean, take a look at the picture above. This pork chop is huge and so flavorful. It’s definitely shareable because I don’t know of anyone who could eat this entire thing. It is also offered on their bar menu as pork chop bites if you want to try a much smaller portion. I highly suggest you try the pork chop if you ever visit Perry’s Steakhouse. Please believe me when I say its so good!

Of course, I had to get dressed up in true fashionista form. This stunning jumpsuit is by Zara. I am going to try to get better pics of this jumpsuit in day time because it’s gorgeous and most certainly sexy! Definitely add this one to your cart immediately before it sells out.

I truly enjoyed celebrating 9 years of love with Eric last night. We are still adjusting to now being parents of two kids, so its harder now to get time together outside of the home. The three hours we had alone were glorious! I feel like we genuinely enjoy each others company. It’s a blessing to be able to do life with the one you love. There has been ups and downs, growing pains, and life changes just like any relationship. But, I think when you commit to being someone partner in this thing called life, you work to defy the odds no matter what. No relationship is perfect, but keep God first, love and respect one another and I believe you’ll do just fine!

So we all heard of the old saying that you cannot wear white after Labor Day. I use to follow that rule years ago, but I know better now. And when you know better, you do better, right? Let’s say yes to wearing white after Labor Day! I am sure you may wonder how to wear white in the fall. Its actually really easy! I love pairing white with camel brown shades. Its the best color combo to transition white into Fall season. Don’t you think?

I scored this camel satin bodysuit at Forever 21 recently. Its a good piece! I strongly recommend picking this up for Fall. Bodysuits are a great wardrobe piece because they fit and lay so well under jeans or pants. No worrying about tucking in your top or having lumps and wrinkles showing underneath your clothing. No ma’am! Nobody has time for that. I am actually thinking of doing a post of some great body suits we could all use for our Fall/Winter wardrobe. Let me know if you’re interested!

Well, this post isn’t really a how to per se’. But, more so giving you a visual on how to wear white in the fall. These jeans are an oldie and goodie from Nordstrom Rack. They fit amazingly! Every time I put them on I am so glad I bought them. I definitely need to wear them more! My plan to do that is to pair them with more camel, reds, burgundy and navy colors for Fall and Winter. What do y’all think?

Love, love, love this Who What Wear Collection jumpsuit y’all! I kept seeing this jumpsuit all over Instagram and didn’t think much of it until I saw it at my local Target. The material has a nice feel to it and the details on the jumpsuit are really nice. Its utility style so you get the rolled sleeve look and the cute pocket detail as well. I was a little nervous about the fit because even though I’m only 5’3, I’m all legs. But, the moment I slipped it on it fit perfectly! Don’t you love when that happens?

This Who What Wear jumpsuit is perfect for Fall! You could definitely pair it with sneakers or a bootie. I pulled out my favorite leopard studded heels to elevate this look. I love me some scarves you guys! My love for scarves come from my mother. She had a drawer full of beautiful scarves and like mother, like daughter. I have a drawer full too! So I thought it would be cute to wear my leopard bandana-style scarf as an unexpected accessory. My friend Renae who took these pics said I was giving her Carmen San Diego vibes. I’m here for that because I adored that show as a child. Perhaps that is why I love this jumpsuit so much?

I love a good skirt! Thats why I am so excited about this super cute satin midi skirt by Who What Collection for Target. Its so good y’all! The rust color is gorgeous, the material is really nice and the tiered detail of the skirt is just on point. This skirt also comes in two other prints: a floral and a leopard. Oh, guess what? Its only $29.99. Darn you Target! You get me every time!

This skirt can go from work to play. Pair it with a nice blouse or blazer for a more work appropriate look. Also, you can make this look a little more playful by pairing it with a graphic tee and fun shoes as I did. I love it when a look comes together! Its so simple and easy. Effortless I tell you!

This graphic tee is also from Target! I’m so glad I stumbled across this tee as it was hanging on a rack filled with various graphic tees. The material is so soft you guys. I know I will be getting a lot of use with this tee. Even though it is short sleeve and light weight, its perfect for layering with denim, a camo jacket or a plaid blazer. Lastly, are these shoes. I’m sorry but if you didn’t participate in the Zara sale this summer, you did yourself a disservice. These shoes were marked down to about $45 and I had to have them. They of course pair so well with this skirt and everyone will ask you “where did you get those shoes?” I haven’t stumbled across any dupes unfortunately (I found one pair on eBay which I linked!) I always tell people don’t sleep on Zara. Pay attention to their inventory and when they announce sales. Because they are epic I tell you, EPIC!!

Are satin midi skirts your thing?

They are definitely mine. I know I will be adding a few more to my wardrobe in addition to satin midi dresses as well.

I am beyond ready for Fall! Its my favorite season, especially for fashion. However, its still in the 90s here in Dallas and show no signs of cooling off anytime soon (what else is new?). Even so, I have to get my fix on incorporating some Fall fashion even though its still hot outside. Transitional fall pieces are key to begin incorporating fall fashion into your looks. So lets discuss shall we?

Let Fall colors inspire you!

An easy way to begin is to think of how to incorporate transitional fall pieces using fall colors into your wardrobe. As you can see, I paired this army green utility shirt with the rust colored tank top. I am bringing in rich tones which are Fall inspired, but I paired it with denim shorts to suit the current weather. Colors such as greens, oranges, browns and even jewel tones are trending big for Fall this year. I love the rust as it really compliments my skin tone. Find a Fall color you love and make it work with your summer wardrobe. That way, you are welcoming the fall shades but not sweating buckets in a sweater or jacket!

Incorporate Fall 2018 prints in lightweight fabrics!

Leopard, snake skin and plaids are also trending for fall. An easy way to incorporate these prints as transitional fall pieces are to find light weight fabrics you can layer that can take you from summer into fall. For instance, a lightweight skirt in a leopard or snakeskin print that you can wear now with sandals and pair with knee boots or tights come fall season. This utility shirt is one of my new favorite purchases that I have gotten so much use out of recently. I’ve worn it layered over tanks, paired it with a fun skirt and I can also rock it with jeans or wide leg pants. Again, I am using the green to bring about a Fall feel into my look. Its also lightweight enough that I can wear if its warm outside or under a cute blazer too!

Have fun with accessories!

Fall makes me think of golds, browns, black and wooden accessories. The bag I am carrying is a great transitional fall piece, not only because its black but because of the handle detail as well. So look for cute bags that evoke a Fall feel. Also, break out those thick gold necklaces, cuffs and wooden bracelets too. These are great finishing touches that pairs well under blazers, coats and dresses.
