Interview with Celebrity Hair Stylist Kiyah Wright at 2017 Mega Fest Dallas, TX

2017 Mega Fest Interview with Celebrity Hair Stylist Kiyah Wright. Kiyah is a hair stylist to celebrities such as Tyra Banks, Ciara, Jennifer Hudson, Kerry Washington, Halle Berry and more.

Kiyah hosted a session at the 2017 Mega Fest in Dallas, Texas, founded by Bishop TD Jakes, on “Unapologetically Beautiful Inside & Out.” She also shared with us live beauty makeovers to two deserving women.

I was able to interview Kiyah personally to learn more about her journey and ask a few questions. Check out my very first interview! As well as the reveal of one of the makeovers!

Hi there, I’m baaaack!!!

 

I’ve been a way for quite a while now and it was a welcomed break. I just needed some time to step away from the blog and come back with a renewed mind. But, what better way to jump back in this blog life than the cutest mommy and me graphic tee for those of us blessed with the melanin. Queue Shopsophistishe.com please!

 

I love supporting small businesses, especially black owned! I have a heart for those who are brave enough to go after their own dream. One day I hope to get my mind together and do the same soon. Anyway, it was a friend of mine who sent me a pic of this tee and said, “Camille needs this!” I fell in love with it immediately and had to have it. I contacted the business owner, Sheena, and told her how much I loved the melanin tee! She was kind enough to send one for Camille and I! So I am proudly sharing this melanin t-shirt with you because you just have to support an amazing small business that encourages us to love the skin we’re in!

 

Lets teach our little ones to love who they were created to be…

Its so important to instill in our babies the importance of who they are and to love themselves. The world today has its own version of “perfection” that we see all day, every day on social media. I remember my mom instilling in me that I was beautiful, intelligent black girl and to know my worth. My mom bought me black Barbies and dolls because she wanted me to see myself and identify with the beauty God has given us.

 

I went to a majority white school from 1st grade up until 8th grade and it was HARD. Being a minority in a majority white school was not always rainbows and butterflies. Looking back, I appreciate my mom constantly instilling in me the beauty of being an African-American and always educating me of my history.  This is what I hope to instill in Camille as I raise her, to be a proud and strong black woman!

 

Thats why I love this melanin t-shirt, not only is it cute, but it also shares the importance of loving yourself. Camille absolutely loves this t-shirt. She’s worn it a few times already and even asks if she can sleep in it lol. We had such a fun doing this shoot as its been a while since our last one (click HERE to see it).

Hey Loves!!

 

I don’t know about you, but I am enjoying this closet remix series. Its giving me a new perspective on how to re work a few pieces in my closet. About a month or two ago, I featured this ruffle sleeve blouse on the blog (Click HERE) with a pair of jeans and flats. This time, I remixed it with my new favorite pair of denim shorts and my Valentino, look for less, studded pumps. I like the juxtaposition of a classic white shirt vamped up with the ruffle sleeve and ripped denim shorts together. Its like two different people coming together and vibin’ just the same!

 

Speaking of, I had brunch this weekend with my blogger boo, Renae, of The Ultimate Style Diary. Renae and I “met” on Instagram! She has followed my blog and I hers. She is a native of New Orleans and is one of the sweetest and realest people I know. I wanted to share her blog with you today because I feel its important to spread love in this blogging community. Sometimes, it can be very competitive and challenging. But, I always believe we can all make it together. It should never be a “You Cant’ Sit With Us” mentality (although some folks are like that). Renae has a unique sense of style that I love (I mean, check out that watermelon clutch) and feel that you will too!

 

Meeting Insta-friends on the ‘gram?

You know, its funny, but I have met a few people that I follow or follow me on Instagram and now we do brunch or hang out. Believe it or not, Instagram is like a new way of meeting people. Its great to meet new people who you share a common bond with and can get to know over lunch or coffee. I use to say no new friends, but blogging has changed that for me. I enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them. It makes blogging more personable and allows me to connect with others. Instead of feeling like a girl behind a computer wondering, is anyone even reading this? Lol.

Hey Loves!

So I thought I would start sharing some behind the scenes posts regarding the blog world. I get tons of questions regarding blogging and its high time I answer them. Today, I am  going to chat about Reward Style or “Like to Know It.” What is Like to Know It? Well, if you follow me on the Instagram, you may have seen the term, “sign up for Like to Know It” or “shop my looks with ‘Like to Know It’.” So lets discuss what it means to me as a blogger and to you as a consumer.

So what is it exactly?

Like to Know It is an app or web tool for bloggers to link products they are wearing on Instagram and their personal blogs. I go into the app, select the picture I want to post and link all the products using the tool from the app. Then the image is posted to Instagram. Once posted, the caption includes the url to shop the products and hash tag #likeit as well. As a consumer, this allows you to shop the products from that picture straight from your email. But, you have to be signed up for it FIRST!!

Once you are signed up, all you have to do is “LIKE” my pic on Instagram. Within minutes, the product information is sent directly to your email. This allows you to see where I purchased the item and buy. Its super easy and if you love what I wear, something you should definitely sign up for. They also created an app (FREE) for the consumer.  All you do is screenshot the post of me and shop it from the app. To be honest, I haven’t signed up for that service yet. I am just fine with tapping a pic on IG and calling it a day. I don’t need another app taking away more space on my Iphone, ok?!

Why do you use it as a consumer?

As a person who also uses this as a consumer, I use it constantly. I love using it when I want to know if a product I “liked,” should even be on my radar (how much is it?). Also, I don’t have to wait for a blogger to respond or find it myself. I just wait for the email to pop up and have at it. If you are concerned about getting too many emails, don’t! You can easily log in to your account and select how often you want to receive the emails or none at all.

Why do you use it as a blogger?

Ok, so this is a two fold question. 1) I use it so that my followers can easily shop what I am wearing. Lets face it, life gets busy and I am not always on Instagram readily available to answer questions and comments. So its great that all my followers have to do is sign up and go to their emails to find out the tea on what I am wearing. 2) I earn commission from the products you purchase via the links. I am not shamed at all for saying this pays me some coins!! Now I am not over here getting broke off, the commission is small. But, its definitely nice to see a few of those payments hit my account. #truthtea lol

Conclusion

So there you have it. I hope this has helped some of you who 1) want to become bloggers and want to know what services or tools you can use to monetize. 2)have been seeing this on my Instagram of Facebook and was wondering what the heck it is lol. If you are a blogger and are interested in applying for this program, feel free to email me. But, I will say they are selective on who they accept. And girl, that’s a whole other blog post on that one! Lol.

Mothers Day gifts are something that should feel thoughtful and special to the one you love. I remember my first Mother’s Day a little after Camille was born about two years ago. Her father bought me a sweet charm bracelet and held Camille in his arms as she held the bag. It was the sweetest thing ever and of course I cried. Thoughtful gifts always come from the heart and thats the best feeling ever!

 

Mother’s Day is around the corner. Have you thought of Mothers Day gifts yet? Well, I have a great gift idea to share with you today. As you can see, my little and I are in the kitchen in this post cooking breakfast. Stuffed French Toast to be exact (click HERE for the Recipe)! Camille loves to help mommy in the kitchen. Every weekend we typically cook pancakes together, well we used to as she was on a pancake kick for a minute! Its always a pleasure to have my little helper in the kitchen and get a little messy with I must say. Which really made me think about getting us aprons, so we could get messy in the kitchen and not on ourselves for once!

 

So I was super excited to partner with Belle Eve Clothing on making us “Mommy and Me” aprons! They have quite a few options for “mommy and me” aprons or just Mommy or whoever! Our aprons came out perfect! The aprons are made out of cotton canvas and has a detachable bow (Camille’s came with one too, but I discovered it in her toy box after the shoot lol). When I showed the aprons to Camille she got VERY excited. One of her favorite books, “Billie B. Brown Bakery Adventure” shows the character and her friends at school, baking in the “bakery.” As soon as she saw the apron, she called it “my bakery” and put it on immediately. Lol. I had to plead with her to take it off. Toddlers I tell ya!

Jumpsuits are usually the first thing I look for when wondering what to wear to an event. They are an easy outfit considering its only one piece and tend to make a statement. I was recently inspired by a few jumpsuits that I saw on Pinterest of one of my favorite fashion bloggers, “Wendy’s Lookbook.” So I went to my favorite online store, ASOS, and immediately went to the search button and typed in “jumpsuits.” Well, that led to several pages that I did’nt particularly want to sift through.

 

Until I thought… I wonder if they have any cute denim jumpsuits?!

 

So when this off shoulder (yall know I love an off shoulder anything), ruffled, wide- legged beauty popped up. GIRL, I added it to my cart so fast. I am signed up with ASOS two day shipping service and I STILL could not wait for it to arrive!! Its seriously the most perfect, statement making jumpsuit for spring. Brunches, date nights, vacations! It will get so much love I cannot wait to wear it out again.

 

Ok, so how does this jumpsuit fit?

This fits true to size in my opinion, I ordered the size 4 and size 6 and kept the 6. My waistline like to act funny sometimes and I don’t always have time to play games. So I didnt want anything holding me back from wearing this jumpsuit. So the six fit me perfectly without being as snug in the tummy as the size four. Other than that, the fit gets a two thumbs up in my book!

 

Guess what, its now been marked down to $38!! Won’t He do it?!

 

I hope you have a great Easter weekend ahead. I will be attending church on Sunday and cooking dinner at home with my family. Easter always makes me so emotional. When I think of the sacrifice of a man who died for my sins, just so I could be me??

So lets talk about bras today! I don’t know about you, but I have plenty of bras that I just hate! Some that are just plain uncomfortable, others that don’t fit me properly or some that makes me look flat as a board. I am so over having wearing these terrible things that is supposed to keep me contained and not moving every which a way when I am out and about.Its been plenty of times where I couldn’t take it anymore and I unsnapped my bra in the car or at my desk at work lol.  So when I saw Third Love, a bra company, in my Instagram feed, I was quite intrigued. Personally, I now have a asymmetric shape due to breast feeding. Which means one boob is significantly bigger than the other, I must say this is a body issue for me that has been really hard to deal with. So when I purchase a bra, I usually have to get the bigger size to accommodate the bigger boob, but that leaves me with the issue of the bra gaping open on the side with the smaller boob. Well, not anymore! My Classic T-shirt Bra FITS ME PERFECTLY ON BOTH BOOBS!! No more of the cup gaping open. Its a close and perfect fit to my body. Glory be to God!!

 

Now that you know of my issues with my bra fitting me perfectly, lets discuss the five shades their New Naked collection comes in!! However, I do wish they had more of a true caramel tone. The naked-3 shade, which is the shade above this one, the naked-4, has more pink undertones to me based on the picture. I need a nude bra with a little more caramel, honey shade. So there is room to expand there. But, to even think of offering a nude bra in a broader color range is a great step in the right direction!!

 

So please try this brand and let me know what you think. I know one thing is for sure, I am ordering more of these bras! This is a total game changer for me in terms of the fit and color. I am so totally pleased!

Hey loves!

As you know, I was in New York a few weeks back for my very first New York Fashion Week (read about it here)! As you can imagine, packing for New York during the winter time is quite a feat. Not only do I need to be stylish, but stay warm as well. I mean, I’m all for fashion, but what I am not gonna do is freeze my butt off! So it was absolutely crucial to have pieces to layer and keep warm in, while enduring the cold while in NYC.
