Hey Loves!!

Wow, its been a while since my last post! Things have been very busy around here at the Green household. For one, we welcomed my son, Xavier Drew Green, into the world on June 25, 2018!! We are trying to find our new normal with a newborn in the house. Let me tell you, its no joke! Camille is a wonderful big sister! She is very helpful and loves her baby brother so much. As for me, I am recovering just fine! It’s an adjustment to get use to sleepless nights. Not to mention managing a toddler as well as a newborn!! It’s a struggle, but its worth it knowing my family of four is complete. I asked you all on Instagram if you wanted to read my birth story! 100% of you said yes! So sit back, relax and read how Xavier decided to enter the world and change our lives forever!

Sunday night, June 24th, at 39 weeks 2 days, I started having strong contractions around 11:30 pm! They were about five mins apart, then to 10 then to 8 mins for over an hour. Hubby called our hospital to let them know and they said to come in if we would like. I recall with Camille that my contractions were very sporadic. We weren’t even sure if I was really experiencing labor or Braxton Hicks contractions with Camille. But, with Xavier, the contractions were very much consistent, time wise! We knew we better leave ASAP because they got stronger and closer together. It hurt like heck and I couldn’t talk thru them much less breathe thru them. So I knew the time was coming!

We got ready to leave for hospital and woke Camille up from bed. At this point it was almost 2am!! We drove to the hospital, contractions coming faster and stronger!! The pain was so unbearable, I was gripping the car door with all my might. In looking back, I don’t  recall the pain being that bad with Camille. It seemed like it was taking forever to get to the hospital. I remember telling Eric to hurry up and drive! LOL. Our hospital is only 15 minutes away, but I swear it felt like forever!  We finally made it to the  hospital. Eric pulled up to the door and ran in to get me a wheelchair. I’m having contractions in the wheelchair and trying to breathe thru them. Eric had to park the car so I was waiting for him and Camille to walk in. As I wait in the lobby, I felt a gush and felt like I peed on myself. Omg, my water broke!

We made it to L&D floor and they check me in. In my mind, everyone was moving at a snails pace. I told them my water broke and I had to go to the bathroom. The nurses let me go to the bathroom and I had to walk myself to the bed. I found that so crazy that they weren’t helping me walk to my bed. Like hello, my water just broke! I know they are Labor and Delivery nurses and have seen it all, but I needed someone to understand my strife and help me lol.

Well, they check my cervix and I’m already 7cm dilated and 100% effaced! I told them I wanted an epidural. They kept taking forever finding my vein for IV. It took THREE attempts. Yes, THREE! Imagine having contractions and someone trying to poke you with a needle too. Not fun! Again, it seemed like no one was in a hurry to get me this IV put in so that I could get an epidural. While laying in bed, I’m shaking from pain and fear. I began to feel fluid pouring out. I tell them, so they check me again and I’m already 9 cm!! At that time my contractions were now 2 mins apart!! They called the on call doc to tell her to come (mind you I thought that was already done 30 mins ago when I arrived). My nurses also told me that the doctor lives about 20 minutes away. Excuse me, what?! Who is not holding this baby in so that a doctor can get here is me! Let’s get this over with! Lol.

I start to feel pressure and they check again. I’m 9.5!! They tell me they can try to give the epidural, but it may not take and I would have to do it natural. I cried because I’m absolutely terrified at the thought of natural birth. Especially since the pain I was experiencing was so terrible. I’ve always planned to have an epidural and was not mentally prepared to have a natural birth. But, I had no choice at this point. They check me again and I’m 10cm! Hallelujah! The doctor came in just in time and they tell me time to push.

I push for about four attempts. I am shaking, terrified and in so much pain. Camille is at the nurses station while this is going on, so we’re good there. They tell me to push again and it feels like HELL. It was hard to focus on the end goal because the pain was so unbearable. I was so scared. I scream and tell them I cant do it! My husband is trying to encourage me, but again I’m so scared. I was screaming “someone please help me!” I can laugh about it now, but thats how I really felt at the moment. The doctor tells me that his head is almost out so its time to push as hard as I can. I push hard and I feel the “ring of fire” pain that I heard about with natural labor. Its hard to explain, but I felt it. After I give that one big push, I hear “here he is, You did it!!”

I couldn’t even open my eyes to look at him when they pull him out because I was so miserable and upset with how painful everything was. I couldn’t believe that it was actually over! It seemed like there wasn’t going to be an end to the labor. But, of course it was! They hand him to me and I finally  look down to the cutest little baby boy I ever did see!

Xavier Drew Green, 5 pounds 5 oz, born June 25th at 3:12am. I started contractions June 24th, 11:30pm and he arrived June 25th 3:12 a.m. A very quick labor! He’s absolutely perfect! Xavier Drew is already at 8 pounds as of his 5 week appointment this past week. I love this little man so much!

Are there plans for any more children in the future?

This is the last child for Eric and I. I am so thankful that God has blessed us with two, beautiful children. After this labor, all I have to say is, women we rock!! The things are bodies can do such as bring life into this world is absolutely amazing!! I am glad I was able to experience the gift of having children. Now the goal is to raise God fearing, intelligent and responsible children in the world we live in today. Please pray for my husband and I as we do just that!

Happy belated Mother’s Day to all of you mommy’s out there!

Mother’s Day is usually a weekend of reflection for me. Mainly because my mother passed away several years ago, so its always a difficult time to take in, accept even. For some of us, we don’t have the gift of taking our mom’s out for brunch, or snapping pictures showing how much we love and appreciate our mothers. We only have the memories that we hold on tight to daily and try to push through the day as much as we can. I always encourage anyone as often as I can to tell their mother they love them. It’s the absolute worst thing in life to lose your mom. What you don’t want is there to be any words left unsaid. I know that sometimes there is strife or wrong doing that some folks have suffered from their mother or you may have to love them from afar. But, if you can just drop those three little words in when you can, you’re giving yourself a gift!! Just in knowing that your mom knew how much you loved her, no matter what!

What has saved me from most of the pain of no longer having my mother here on earth, is having Camille. Being a mother is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Period! Its saved me in a lot of ways! I often doubted why God would take my mother away, why me? When Eric and I was trying for a child, it was not easy! We went through some difficulty and I questioned my faith in God. I grew up in church all my life and I knew that I had to hold on to my faith as tight as I could. Because if I let go…….!!! That little bit of mustard seed faith I had in wanting a child was just enough.  I became pregnant and was blessed with Camille! It showed me that God was listening! He heard my cries and my prayers!! Going forward, I saw that He never left me alone. He was right by my side and saw the desires of my heart! You guys can clearly see that she is my greatest gift from God, I’ll never take it for granted!!

Motherhood can be amazing, exhausting, scary and thrilling all wrapped up into one. Often times I wonder, am I a good mother? Did I lose my temper too quick? Am I not patient enough? Did I scold her instead of talking to her about what she did wrong? Am I spoiling her too much? We have a lot of fears as mothers, after all we don’t want to screw up the most important job in the world!

In today’s world filled so full of beauty standards, social media and just straight out racism, I wonder how can I empower my child to stay true to herself? To understand that she is beautiful, strong, intelligent and worthy of everything else she desires? My mom always said, “the world is getting wiser and weaker.” Y’all the “weaker” part scares me! We see it daily! So how do we ensure we impart wisdom and knowledge to our children so they don’t get caught up in the foolishness? I know I am not alone in these thoughts, right?

In a few weeks, my son will make his presence on this earth. My son! Those words are a little scary to me, because I feel like I’m such a girl mom. But, this is another layer of motherhood I will have to experience that I am nervous about. Raising a strong, black man in today’s America is scary! As an African American, its scary times right now! I don’t want my son to be seen as a threat, I want him to be seen as the child of God that he is! My prayer is that God truly gives me the wisdom and knowledge to raise my kids. I want them to break barriers, be educated individuals, make sound and wise decisions. I want them to do better than mommy and daddy. After all, that is the goal for each generation to succeed the prior one right?

What are your thoughts on Motherhood in today’s society?

I know this is not my usual fashion blog post. But, these thoughts have been on my heart for a while. You know how it is, sometimes we just don’t know how to say it or express it. I would love to hear any encouraging words you have regarding motherhood today. As they say it takes a village to raise a child. That’s the kind of positive, strong community we all need to make it through this thing called motherhood!

Share your thoughts!

Hi there, I’m baaaack!!!

I’ve been a way for quite a while now and it was a welcomed break. I just needed some time to step away from the blog and come back with a renewed mind. But, what better way to jump back in this blog life than the cutest mommy and me graphic tee for those of us blessed with the melanin. Queue Shopsophistishe.com please!

I love supporting small businesses, especially black owned! I have a heart for those who are brave enough to go after their own dream. One day I hope to get my mind together and do the same soon. Anyway, it was a friend of mine who sent me a pic of this tee and said, “Camille needs this!” I fell in love with it immediately and had to have it. I contacted the business owner, Sheena, and told her how much I loved the melanin tee! She was kind enough to send one for Camille and I! So I am proudly sharing this melanin t-shirt with you because you just have to support an amazing small business that encourages us to love the skin we’re in!

Lets teach our little ones to love who they were created to be…

Its so important to instill in our babies the importance of who they are and to love themselves. The world today has its own version of “perfection” that we see all day, every day on social media. I remember my mom instilling in me that I was beautiful, intelligent black girl and to know my worth. My mom bought me black Barbies and dolls because she wanted me to see myself and identify with the beauty God has given us.

I went to a majority white school from 1st grade up until 8th grade and it was HARD. Being a minority in a majority white school was not always rainbows and butterflies. Looking back, I appreciate my mom constantly instilling in me the beauty of being an African-American and always educating me of my history.  This is what I hope to instill in Camille as I raise her, to be a proud and strong black woman!

Thats why I love this melanin t-shirt, not only is it cute, but it also shares the importance of loving yourself. Camille absolutely loves this t-shirt. She’s worn it a few times already and even asks if she can sleep in it lol. We had such a fun doing this shoot as its been a while since our last one (click HERE to see it).

So definitely head to Sheena’s site, https://shopsophistishe.com and grab your melanin t-shirt ASAP!!

Because…

“I am dripping Melanin and honey. I am black without apology.”

-Upile

Camille loved it, she ate the whole thing!

Mothers Day gifts are something that should feel thoughtful and special to the one you love. I remember my first Mother’s Day a little after Camille was born about two years ago. Her father bought me a sweet charm bracelet and held Camille in his arms as she held the bag. It was the sweetest thing ever and of course I cried. Thoughtful gifts always come from the heart and thats the best feeling ever!

Mother’s Day is around the corner. Have you thought of Mothers Day gifts yet? Well, I have a great gift idea to share with you today. As you can see, my little and I are in the kitchen in this post cooking breakfast. Stuffed French Toast to be exact (click HERE for the Recipe)! Camille loves to help mommy in the kitchen. Every weekend we typically cook pancakes together, well we used to as she was on a pancake kick for a minute! Its always a pleasure to have my little helper in the kitchen and get a little messy with I must say. Which really made me think about getting us aprons, so we could get messy in the kitchen and not on ourselves for once!

So I was super excited to partner with Belle Eve Clothing on making us “Mommy and Me” aprons! They have quite a few options for “mommy and me” aprons or just Mommy or whoever! Our aprons came out perfect! The aprons are made out of cotton canvas and has a detachable bow (Camille’s came with one too, but I discovered it in her toy box after the shoot lol). When I showed the aprons to Camille she got VERY excited. One of her favorite books, “Billie B. Brown Bakery Adventure” shows the character and her friends at school, baking in the “bakery.” As soon as she saw the apron, she called it “my bakery” and put it on immediately. Lol. I had to plead with her to take it off. Toddlers I tell ya!

Belle Eve Clothing is a great Mothers Day gift option!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this post and check out the Stuffed French Toast recipe. I found it on Pinterest. It was very easy to make and tasted delish! You can use any fruit you like and really make it your own. They are perfect to just grab and go, you dont even need syrup. They are sweet enough on their own!

Shout out to all the food bloggers out there, I was exhausted after this shoot. I don’t know how you guys do it cooking and taking pics at the same darn time. Well, I did have a toddler that I had to keep interested, but still. Hats off to you! Oh and thanks to my hubby who became Instagram husband for this shoot and putting up with my critiques of his picture taking abilities lol.

Be sure to check out Belle Eve’s line of aprons. I am sure you will find a perfect Mothers Day gift for the special lady in your life!

Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and in order for me to feel full of love to give, I have to first show love to myself! Self care is SOOO important! Most times as a mom, I am giving to my child so much that I feel like I have nothing left to give to myself or others. But, in order for me to be my best self, I HAVE to have some me time. I know there are other moms out there feeling the same. So I reached out to my fellow blogger moms to see if they wanted to get together for a mommy spa day of getting pampered, relaxation and chit chat. After I received a “YES!” from them both (lol) I knew just where to go for our mommy spa day. My friend Kameisha Getum is the owner of Spa Lala in Dallas. She is also a mom, wife and business owner so she totally was on board with us getting a few treatments to be our best selves.

So let me tell you why you need to book an appointment at Spa Lala. Its a lovely spa suite so the setting is quite intimate, yet tranquil. Its very clean and welcomes a serene spa atmosphere. I received the dermaplaning facial, Eryn received a brow wax and tint by the on staff esthetician Camille. Taryn received lash extensions by Kameisha. I never heard of derma planing before which is basically where they use a small scalpel to remove the fine hairs from the face to create a smoother canvas for the skin. Camille advised me of the fab benefits which are brightening of the skin and reducing hyper pigmentation. I have normal to dry skin, so I don’t have many skin issues except this darn blemish from a pimple I decided to pop (I know, I know). However, the results from the facial were instant. My skin was brighter and smoother. When I applied my makeup later that day, my skin was even more FLAW-LESS! lol. We were all very pleased with the results of our services. Not only that, but the education and tidbits we learned by Kameisha and Camille regarding the services we received and how to maintain it were great too!

I want to focus this year on supporting more small businesses, especially black owned! I think its important that we keep those with the entrepreneur spirit in mind when it comes to our dollars. Spa Lala Dallas is the perfect place to support and get pampered too! Head to Taryn’s blog, Glamorous Versatility to see her thoughts and results of her eyelash extension and to Eryn’s blog, Style Sew Me, to see her brow tint/ wax!!

If you are in Dallas, be sure to make an appointment and mention that you heard about Spa Lala on our blogs. Kameisha, the owner of Spa Lala, is generously offering 20% off a full set of eyelash extensions, as well as, 20% off any facial service. Don’t say I never did nothing for ya!

Have a fabulous weekend! I’ll be headed to New York for my very first Fashion Week! Follow me on Instagram for all the tea and fashion!!

Glamping. Have you ever heard of it? Its basically defined as glamorous camping. I was sitting in bed one morning thinking of blog post ideas and then it hit me. A “glamping” mommy and me photo shoot for Camille and I!! So I got to work on creating a glam’d out camping experience right in my own back yard. It was also high time my baby appeared on the blog again and I am sure you can agree, she nailed it!

I absolutely love coming up with new ideas and experiences for both Camille and I when it comes to the blog. So my brain was churning on how to turn this backyard space into a campsite. You know the deal: a few tents, camp fire, roasted marshmallows etc. But in the process, I became one tired, overwhelmed mommy. Thats when reality set in and I realized I just need to keep it simple. So simple that I created my very own, DIY teepee tent shown in the pictures!!! It was VERY EASY to do and under $75! Believe it or not, teepee tents are very expensive if you purchase them retail. We’re talking over $100 people! I filmed a video tutorial for you that will be on the blog soon to help you create your own. Stay tuned in the next few weeks so you can see how I created this gorgeous, birch wood, natural inspired tent!

Of course for this to be a legit “mommy and me” post, Camille and I are twinning! It was imperative that we dressed somewhat alike, right? I was so happy when Krystle from KRZA Headbands wanted to work with us for these adorable mommy and me turban headbands. They are super soft, stretchy and comfortable to wear. Camille kept wanting to put it on her head every time she saw her headband. These turbans are perfect touch of glam for our “glamping” experience don’t you think?

I hope you enjoyed this blog post! I know I have been a little silent on the blog front lately, but I have so many blog projects happening that I had to focus on getting those completed. It is my goal to make my blog a full time gig. So I have to put in that WERK to make it happen lol. Please look for more to come and as I stated before, my DIY Teepee Tent Video Tutorial!!
