Hey Loves!

I hope you had a fabulous weekend. My weekend was spent cleaning the house and attending an Alvin Ailey Dance Company performance. Which by the way was simply amazing!! Such a great opportunity for some culture and to get dressed up. Speaking of which, I dont always get the opportunity to put on a pretty dress and hit the town. Especially as a mommy, the days of getting dressed up sometimes feel few and far in between.

So, what is my mommy style?

I wanted to discuss mommy style today on the blog. I learned quickly when Camille came home from the hospital, that getting time to take care of myself would be rare. If I wanted to take care of me, it would require effort on my part to not let go of what made me feel good as a woman. After all, who wants to lose their mojo?

Those of you who are moms understand the typical “mom uniform” of yoga pants or sweats can get pretty boring. And dare I say, not always stylish?!

I find it important to look for comfortable pieces that also has style and allows you to look well put together. For me, some days that is boyfriend jeans and a tee or most recently, this combination I am wearing here. Printed leggings and this super soft velvet/velour hoodie. Which is probably the most comfortable and simple outfit in my closet!

You guys, I have worn this outfit OUT! From dropping Camille off at daycare, meeting a friend for breakfast or hitting the grocery store, this outfit has kept me all the way together. Not to mention I usually end up petting this sweatshirt because its so darn soft and comfy. I definitely cannot exclude these polka dot mesh leggings. Seriously, how cute are they?!

I hope this outfit idea shows you that not even a fashion blogger is ALWAYS in heels or dry clean only pieces. There is a time and a place for everything. And most times, comfort does win. But, sacrificing style is never an option!

Hey loves!

Spring is here in Dallas! As a Michigander all of my life, Spring usually doesn’t hit Michigan until about May. So to have warm spring weather in Dallas in March always amazes me. But, I’m here for it because I can start transitioning winter pieces in my closet and remix them for spring! Like this velvet midi skirt I got a few weeks ago. I have been in love with it since I pulled it out of the package and the luxe velvet touched my fingertips. Was that too much? Sorry, but this skirt is just simply LOVELY and I want you to buy it!

If you are wondering how to wear velvet in Spring, the answer is pretty simple. You want to find a lightweight velvet piece that you can easily layer to go with the ever changing temps. The idea with extending velvet from Winter to Spring, is to make it more of a transitional piece that you can layer with multiple items in your closet. When I bought the skirt, my initial plan was to wear it with a sleek turtleneck and knee boots with a nice, streamlined coat and vampy lips. Well, I never got around to wearing that look since Spring got here so quickly. So I made some easy changes to make it spring ready! When I styled this look, it was one of those moments where I was desperate to make it happen. I was deep in my closet, searching on what to wear with this skirt. Nothing really stood out to me and I was close to giving up lol. Can I be honest with you for a sec? When I post looks on the blog, there is a little pressure there to get the look right. So I really go through it when I am creating an outfit because I don’t want y’all side eyeing me like “ummm girl, no!” lol.

Anyhoo, I am certainly pleased with this look. It has my name written all over it! I was glad that I was able to pair this velvet midi skirt with a few other spring transitional pieces such as the bomber jacket and the open toe booties (old Zara sale goody). I see myself wearing this look to events, church and brunch too!

I hope this post on how to wear velvet in spring gave you a few ideas. Do you have any velvet pieces in your closet that you want to carry in to spring? Let me know, I’d love to know how you plan to wear it!
