Hey Loves!
Happy Sunday! I receive so many emails, DMs or what have you from those of you who are interested in blogging. The blog life can be A LOT!! I haven’t gotten to where I want to be with blogging. It is my hope to do it full time with the income to match. I got a ways to go before I get there. But, let me tell you, the journey has still been quite rewarding.
Blogging requires time, money, and passion! If you plan to only blog once a month or barely that, you need to re evaluate your goal. You MUST be consistent. Blogging is an oversaturated industry. I always tell those who are interested in starting a blog, that you have to treat your blog like it’s your best friend. You don’t go months without saying hi to your bestie do you? If you did, your relationship may suffer a bit and you may not be as close as you once were. Thats why consistency is important! If you followers don’t see you or hear from you, they move on to the next blog. You have to remain in front of the faces of those who support your blog. Otherwise, they will forget you and move on! You want to grow your audience, in order to do that, you must remain present!
I have been blogging for about 2.5 years. Majority of that time I was working a full time job. Well, I was laid off several months ago. I am actually looking into a new career in the field of Social Media. I am hoping to work with a brand or company as a Social Media Specialist or Strategist using what I have learned in blogging. During this time of being laid off, I had to be more mindful of my spending habits, which also meant not shooting with my photographer every two weeks. Insert tears here! lol. It’s not too bad, as its hot here in Dallas, so the thought of doing a shoot in this heat drains me. So I have to look for other ways to get pictures done and keep the blog going.
Queue the title of this post, work with what you have!! My husband blessed me with a DSLR camera for Christmas and honey it’s the best gift ever! I’ve used this baby constantly!! I am yet learning how to use this camera to the best of its capability. I took online workshops on photography, looked on Pinterest for tips and just practiced on how to use my camera. Today I had the day to myself with Camille in school. I had to get this top and beach blanket photographed for the blog. So I pulled out my tripod, my handheld timer and headed to my back yard. I just wanna say that I appreciate my neighbors for their gorgeous pink tree in the background. It was just what I needed for a pop of color lol.
So even though this photo isn’t filled with a bright wall, or a downtown backdrop, its still a pretty picture. Sometimes we get caught up in to the look of things, that we don’t admire whats around us. The trees, the sunshine and the breeze that blessed me this morning. Now, the mosquito bites I received on the other hand, I can’t do anything about that! lol.
I encourage you to make the best with what you have in this blogging adventure. People are looking to see you for who you are. Who is the girl behind the lens? What is her personality? What makes her laugh, what makes her dance?! Embrace that and enjoy the ride!
