The lace up top trend is becoming a new favorite of mine! I love little details that can make a top or skirt more unique. Well, this lace up top I scored for only $12.99 definitely makes the cut! I saw this beauty on Instagram (I swear Instagram gets me in trouble) and HAD to have it! This shirt is soooo soft and comfortable. You can adjust the strings to wear it as loose or tight as you like. I think its super sexy to have your bra peaking through. Especially, if you have a little lace bralette like this one! I love unexpected touches like that, don’t you?

I am soooo looking forward to this three day weekend coming up. Last weekend I was husband and mommy free! The husband went to Miami for a “Boys Trip” and Camille stayed with Nana for the weekend. Oh the joy it was to have the house to myself! To not be needed or interrupted. To have peace and quiet! It was amazing! I treated myself to wine, pizza and a night of pampering. It was so needed. When I had Camille, I knew life would never be the same. But, what no one can prepare you for is how tired you will be. Like all the time! The older she gets, the more active she is. Apparently, I need to take a vitamin or two to get all of the energy she has. Pair that along with work, blogging and household duties, I’m spent at the end of the night!

Although I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend, it was nothing like seeing Camille face when she first saw me when I picked her up. It made my heart smile. I missed her so much! No matter how tired I get or the amazing time I had alone this weekend, its nothing like being her mommy. She makes it all worth it! I just love my little angel face.

What do you have planned for this three day weekend? I think I’ll clean a little and lay around a lot. Or as much as Camille will allow me 🙂

See you soon!

Hello loves! There is always something quite whimsical and dreamy about wearing tulle. This tulle skirt is no exception! I wore this skirt on the blog quite a while ago (click here) during the hot, Texas summer. Well, let me tell you, it is still perfection for this breezy, cool weather. Its even dreamier as the wind catches the tulle and it creates a little bit of movement! My favorite photo from this shoot is the one above. Gorgeous right?! I keep swooning at it. Also, if you’ve been following me for a while, you guys should know by now that I am crazy about leather! I can’t get enough of it. It’s a consistent go to piece in my wardrobe.I recently purchased this gem of a leather jacket the other week. Its no surprise that I have been wearing it constantly. So I had to put my spin on wearing a tulle skirt by edging it up with this textured, leather jacket. I think the whole look is quite perfect for date night, church or any event.
How do you feel about tulle skirts? Do you like them or nah?!

Hey loves! Thanks for stopping by the blog! Its so hard sometimes to plan outfits for my blog posts. I often feel like I am missing one key piece that will really tie it all together. Well, this outfit is a prime example. I wanted to wear ripped boyfriend jeans, booties and a t shirt, but I couldn’t make it all come together. Something was missing! I tried really hard to not buy anything (oh who am I kidding)  but I couldn’t resist when I saw this gray, midi cardigan. If you are wondering how to layer, this is a perfect example on how to do so. Its always best to use layer lightly so that the fit isn’t snug or uncomfortable. I love this midi cardigan because it’s lightweight and perfect for those chilly days or nights when trying to keep warm. I was a little worried about it looking too long on me. But, by creating height in wearing the boyfriend jeans cuffed a little higher, and the high ankle boots, it was a winner. Again, a great example on how to layer for spring! This is the cutest outfit for a morning coffee run to your local coffee house don’t you agree?
Oh, and thank you for all of the great feedback on my “20 Things You Don’t Know About Me” blog post. I have a lot in common with most of you. Its funny how the world works. We often feel like we are alone in the situations we are going through, and that no one could understand. But, that is not always the case. Somebody, somewhere may have walked in your shoes a little bit. Its amazing to know that I can connect with my readers over me sharing bits and pieces of my life. I appreciate you all coming along with me on this blogging journey. You make it worth it!!

Hello loves! Its Thursday and that means I am a happy camper as the weekend is upon us! When I styled this look, I knew I wanted it to be a little casual, but impactful. Dallas weather this winter has been all over the place, its cold one-minute and warm the next. So I took to layering up! I did a nod to the 90s movie “Clueless,” by wearing a crop top over a flowy blouse and a little print mixing! The burgundy cropped turtleneck and handbag adds warmth and depth to the look. Throw in a great pair of distressed, ripped jeans and faux fur pom poms for the cutest details. This is a great outfit because you get a balancing act of using two bold prints: camouflage and leopard together. I’d like to share a few of my own personal tips for print mixing. I always admire the girls that can throw on three different prints and make it work. But, I’m a little conservative when it comes to print mixing. I don’t want to look like I got dressed in the dark lol. I still want to look effortless and maintain my sense of style. Don’t let print mixing overwhelm you. I have five tips of how I incorporate print mixing in my wardrobe that works for me!

1. Be open to trying different patterns and prints- Leopard, floral, plaid, polka dots, camouflage, tweed, stripes etc. Write down the prints you currently have and create combinations. This allows you to think a little outside of the box and get the creative juices flowing!

2. There’s levels to this- Determine how bold you are willing to go with print mixing. Personally, I don’t want my prints “competing” with one another. In today’s look, you can see how I wore the camo jacket and the leopard shoes together. But, notice how these two prints are not close to one another. To me, this is an easier approach to mixing prints since they’re not directly next to each other.

3. Wear one bold print and a smaller print – Imagine a floral dress with huge flowers and a leopard coat with gigantic spots. It’s too much!! Try wearing a floral dress with smaller floral print and a leopard coat with bigger spots or vice versa. Tone down the proportions of the print for more impact and wearability.

4. Accessorize- don’t forget, you can incorporate accessories when print mixing too! Honestly, accessories are a great start for a rookie print mixer. Take note of my tortoise shell sunglasses! Its a small touch but another print added to the mix. An easy print to start with is leopard! A leopard bracelet or leopard handbag or shoes can just about work with any other print. Leopard is all the rage right now. Embrace it!

5. Back to step 1, those combinations you wrote down? Yes, its time to try it all on. Allow yourself to visually see how the prints look on your frame and body. Discover what works for you and makes you the most comfortable when mixing prints. You’d be surprised at what you come up with!

It’s Thursday! This week has flown by and I am happy about it. I think today’s look is definitely up there as one of my favorites. I absolutely love graphic tees. A graphic tee allows you to be creative and expressive.Unsure of how to style a graphic tee? Keep it simple! You can never have too many if you ask me! You can pretty much wear this look anywhere, even for Valentine’s Day if you like. I bought this hot pink leather moto jacket last year and sadly its no longer available in this particular color. I thought it would be fun to add a pop of color to this look and I really feel its the icing on the cake. You guys know I will throw on my favorite boyfriend jeans and fringe boots with just about anything. I think this outfit came together perfectly. Don’t you?
If you didn’t know, I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. It is a place that is near and dear to my heart. I know the Detroit you may hear about on the news sounds unsettling. And that it is. But, growing up it was my home. And there is no place like it. When I tell people I am from Detroit, they are usually surprised. I suppose we all have our thoughts on our expectations of people and where they’re from. I guess because of what they have heard, they expect someone from Detroit would act or behave a certain way. I’m not really offended. But, you most definitely can’t talk down on my city to me!! lol. I always will represent proudly where I am from!!
This tee speaks volumes about my city, my home. Most times, it does feel like Detroit vs Everybody. The challenges my city faces are definitely difficult. But, the memories I have growing up in “Tha D” always makes me smile. I remember when I was little, playing in the park at Belle Isle across from my grandmother apartment, Easter egg hunts at my church, riding my bike in my neighborhood and getting ice cream at our neighborhood ice cream shop. My high school, Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. is one of the top three high schools in the city. The memories I have of my classmates and teachers are priceless. Cruising downtown with my friends, the summer music festivals at Hart Plaza and eating delicious food in Greektown on a warm summer night. My mom was a community activist and worked hard at rebuilding the neighborhood and serving the community. Everyone knew Mrs. Taylor! She would take me with her to the community meetings and activities. She showed me what its truly is like to give back to your community and to be selfless as well. Looking back, I can appreciate those moments. Her love for the city was truly grand and she loved every second of the work she had done. My mother passed away five years ago. My dad is still there in the home I was raised in. I haven’t visited home since I’ve had my daughter. I’m tearing up a bit writing this post because the memories of home are so vivid and strong.  Even though I live in Dallas now, there is truly no place like home. Detroit, I am rooting for you! And I love you.

Hi there! So glad you stopped by the blog today. I’m keeping it pretty “simple” in today’s look. A military style jacket, cozy turtleneck and ripped boyfriend jeans all come together for this easy, sophisticated look.  You could wear this anywhere and look pulled together and amazing! I’m not sure if I ever shared, but Olivia Palermo (from the old MTV reality show “The City”) is my “style icon” and all time favorite fashionista. I always feel that she gets it “right!” So this look is inspired by her! Her looks are simple, but yet so chic and sophisticated. If you are not familiar with her, Google her!! She can literally do no wrong when it comes to fashion in my eyes…

Who is your “style icon?”

Hi there friends! One thing is for certain, I have been a girl all about capes and ponchos this fall/winter season. They are quick and easy to throw on and make a quick outfit. For me, I have to find one that is the perfect length that allows my legs to show and give me a bit of height. This ASOS cape does just that! It is a bit wide on me, so I used a skinny belt to create some shape and flare. Also, this cape is REVERSIBLE! So you get two looks for one cape, great buy if you ask me!! I am also wearing my favorite Over The Knee boot this season, the “Gorgeous” boot by Steve Madden! It is the PERFECT dupe for the Stuart Weitzman “Highland” boot. For under $150, I have no problem indulging in this look for less option.
Have you participated in the cape trend? What do you think of it?
Check out my previous looks wearing some great cape options herehere and here!

Hey Loves! Welcome back! This is my final look from my “NYC Street Style” blog shoot while I was in New York in December for a weekend girls trip. I love digging into my closet and being able to come up with looks that are oldies but goodies. All of the items in this post I’ve had for over a year or so and can always count on them to be “in style.” Sometimes, having a blog can be a little hard on the wallet. There are so many new styles of clothes, shoes and accessories out there that I want to put my own personal spin on and share with my readers. However, its always great to have staple items in your closet you can rely on. This look is one of them! It was so perfect for walking the concrete jungle and taking in the city!
I promised to share with you a little of what we did on our girls trip. I feel like we ate the entire time while we were there lol. We ate at Sara Beth’s twice for brunch. The food was so good!! I definitely recommend it. Their breads and pastries along with homemade preserves were absolutely wonderful! We also visited Chelsea Market. We strolled the halls and stopped in almost every yummy vendor and  shop to see all of the food goodness. Homemade pasta, fresh donuts, spice shops and the cutest seafood market, along with many more shops, were all amazing! We also had dinner at Buddakan. If you ever seen Sex and the City, the movie, you recall where Carrie had her rehearsal dinner at the restaurant with the huge chandeliers? Yes, that place! The food was outstanding! Their steamed pork buns are absolutely delicious!! Oh New York, you have my heart!
We stayed in TriBeCa at the cutest boutique hotel, Duane Street Hotel! It was the perfect location-a few minutes from SoHo and near lots of shops and restaurants. But, also tucked away on a quiet street! The staff were so nice and friendly AND they have fresh chocolate chip cookies each day for you in the lobby. With those kind of treats, you have my business! The next time I visit New York again, I would definitely go back.
We went to see The Lion King while we were there as well. It was my second time seeing it and my friends first. It was absolutely AMAZING! I always get so emotional in the very beginning of the show. If you have not seen it yet, you must check it out! It was worth every penny!
Our girls trip was so much fun and just what I needed. I work a full time job, a mommy to a toddler and a wife. Sometimes, I feel I am pulled in so many different directions. It can be so overwhelming and challenging! I thought I would be super emotional when we dropped Camille off to daycare the morning I was leaving. I teared up a bit, but reminded myself that this trip is for me and that I will be back soon to see her smile and hear her giggles. It was great to have a break from it all and let my hair down. I can’t wait to do it again!
Do you have any fun trips coming up? I’d love to hear about it!

Can you believe that Christmas is only days away? I have so much to do and so little time. It’s a little hard to get into the Christmas spirit here in Dallas when the weather is still quite warm. I was excited to head to New York over a week ago to experience some winter weather. Well, was I in for a  surprise when the high was 60 degrees during the time we were there! It was still a little chilly, but perfect weather to layer with fur vests, knee boots and parka jackets. I love layering because you can take off or add on and still be warm, as well as comfortable. I also find its better to carry a smaller bag when layering outfits so that you’re not adding on any additional bulk. This merlot, suede cross body bag was the perfect companion for touring the city. It holds so much and is so easy to throw on and go! I wore it as a cross body and as a clutch for night time attire as well.
I promise to fill you in on more details about my trip to New York very soon! As I said earlier, I have so much to do to prepare for Christmas. So I better let you go and jump on my Christmas shopping ASAP!
See you Tuesday for my last Girlfriends Guide to Gift Giving post. I have a few gift ideas for the Foodie in mind!!

Hey Loves! I’m back from my NYC Girls Trip!! We had so much fun taking in the sights, eating great food and enjoying the magic that is Christmas in NYC. Check out my Insta for pics! While I was there, I was able to squeeze in a blog shoot as well. I’ve always envied those gorgeous, New York Street Style photos I always see. So I just knew that I had to make it happen. The weather was just perfect while we were there. So I pulled out my go to leather jacket, along with the coveted Zara blanket scarf and Prada sunnies to give me that “New York State of Mind” type vibe.
Let’s talk about this t-shirt for a sec! Isn’t it the cutest? I saw this on my Insta feed and knew I needed to find it. I’ve linked this t-shirt for you below. Trust me, you need it in your life. It’s the realest t shirt out there am I right?!
Stop back again Sunday for another NYC look that will be on the blog. I’ll also chat a little about where we stayed, ate and other deets!
