Have you heard of the saying, time is precious? Well, let me tell you, this year I have truly learned and embraced the meaning of that saying. The value of my time is something that I have become fully aware of this year. I am not sure if its just getting older and wiser, or what! But, I’ve started to examine what or who requires the use of my time and who I am willing to give it to. No, I am not being extra. But, it seems like we give so much our time to people or places we want to go and things we want to do and we burn ourselves out. We are exhausted, drained and in need of a recharge because we are trying to do every darn thing. Do you understand what I mean?

I figured out that I sometimes have that fear of missing out. You all know what I am talking about, our days and weekends are packed with all of these activities that we don’t want to miss. I don’t know who I  think I am fooling because half the time I really don’t want to go or be bothered. The day of the event comes around and I am tired from the busy week or just want to hang with my family.

As a blogger, I get invited to quite a few events. Most of these events are during the work week and downtown. Which means I have to coordinate with my husband on him getting home in time from work to be home with Camille and then spend over a hour in traffic during rush hour to attend these events. Then I have to be socialize for a few hours while I am there and then trek back home in the evening.  So I’ve spent my time doing all of this just to leave the house for a few hours and basically show my face. Exhausting to say the least!

In the past few months, I’ve started to examine the value of my time. I don’t know where it came from. But, I felt the need to really figure out what I am trying to do and accomplish when I stretch myself thin. Ultimately, it is up to me to figure out who or what I am going to give my time to.  God is of course number one and I know He deserves way more time from me then I give Him. Also, the most important of course is my family, everything else is truly secondary. I also feel that friendships are deserving of my time because lets face it, sometimes those friendships help keep us sane.  So once we figure out who deserves our time, its easy to figure out who or what does not right?

Not always! This can sometimes be trial and error. Sometimes we don’t realize when we allow people or things to take our precious time away from us. We spend time arguing, hating, comparing and y’all favorite word, being petty with some folk that we should have cut off a long time ago. We put ourselves in situations that often leave us uncomfortable and questioning why did we waste our time here? Girl, this is when the value of your time need to kick in and you start evaluating things a little deeper. We’ve all been there, but I am here to tell you that I am reclaiming my time as Auntie Maxine said!! And guess what, you should too!!

So start taking a closer look on who or what you give your time to. If it requires too much, its time to determine if its worth it. I know I am! I don’t always have to attend every single event that stresses me out before I even get there. Or try to make time for people who don’t make time for me. Now I realize the value of my time is worth something. We have to use our time wisely! Once you see there is value in that, you’ll begin not to take it for granted as we all do!

How do you give your time?

Do you evaluate it closely or find yourself giving your time to everyone?

Happy Friday eve!!

I don’t know about you but the kimono trend is here and I am feeling it. Kimonos can sometimes be a bit tricky to pull off. They can be too long and drag to the floor, too big to where you feel like you’re wearing a bath robe or even the fabric can be too flimsy or silky. Basically, you have to find one that works for you in terms of fit, use of wear and how you plan to rock it!

It was Zara (one of my fav places to shop) who had some super cute kimonos this season and I fell in love. I wanted them all! Fortunately, the Zara sale came thru and your girl got two to cure my craving. I particularly love how this kimono has buttons so it draws you in a bit and creates a shape. This eliminates the problem of feeling like you’re drowning in fabric. I wore it to brunch with a fellow blogger this past weekend. So of course we took to the streets and took some pics afterwards. I got soon many compliments and it made me think to round up some kimonos for you to try as well!

But, before we get into that, lets discuss a few things to look for when buying a kimono and styling it.

First, fit is everything! Kimonos typically come with a belt which is helpful to cinch you in and create a shape. But, if the belt is a bit too thin or give you bath robe vibes, consider wearing a wider belt with your kimono instead. Sometimes just because a belt comes with an item, doesn’t mean you should wear it. Switching out the belt gives you an opportunity to give the kimono some extra flair. Not to mention, make it your own unique piece!

Second, wear fitted clothes underneath the kimono such as a dress, skinny jeans or pants, pencil skirt or shorts like I am wearing here. For me, I don’t feel I would look good with loose clothes under an already flowy kimono. As you see in the pic, I chose to wear a cami and shorts which are more fitted to my body versus being baggy. I have seen some style the kimono with loose fitted pants and it looks amazing on them. But, I’m 5’3 so I want at least one piece to be fitted to my body so that I am now drowning in material.

Thirdly, determine what length is best for you. Kimonos come in various lengths which I love. That means if you are on the shorter side, maybe a kimono that hits at the thigh is best for you. You can also go midi length with the kimono which would be a great layering piece with a fitted dress. Ankle length kimonos also look great with pants or skinny jeans. The one I am wearing is a bit in between midi and ankle. So it worked perfectly styling it with shorts.

I hope these tips were a bit helpful in finding the perfect kimono. I’ve linked 21 for you to shop all under $50!! I already have a few of these on my wish list!

Which one is your favorite? Are you here for the kimono trend or nah??

Its almost Friday!!

Definitely time to celebrate! Soooo about this off shoulder blazer… I’m here for it! So often, it seems like you’re wearing the same thing over and over and nothing stands out on its own. Well, when I saw this blazer, I knew I had to have it. I mean, you all know I love off the shoulder anything, but to see it in a blazer is totally news to me. I had to order it and see if I loved it. And with this look, I most certainly do!!

This is another SheIn purchase! I know some people are a little hesitant to order from SheIn. You may have heard of those crazy stories where people order from those overseas websites and buy a dress and it looks a hot mess. Well, I’ve ordered from SheIn quite a few times (just search my site)  and I have not experienced those horror stories. What I like to do, is read the reviews of the item I am interested in FIRST before purchasing! That way, I have a good idea if I am buying a good piece or not. This off shoulder blazer has a good weight to it and great structure! The only thing that bugs me is that you see the two buttons from the bottom up, except at the top of the blazer, you only see the one. Its made to look like that, but thats a detail I would love changed. Otherwise, this is definitely a stand out piece and guess what? You probably won’t see many people wearing it because its so unique and its just different!

What are your thoughts on this off shoulder blazer? You here for it or nah??

All I want for Christmas is for Sallie Mae to leave me alone! That would be the best Christmas gift of all. Lol. I am sure most of you can agree. Y’all, when I laid eyes on this sweatshirt, I knew I had to have it! “Mess In A Bottle” nailed it with this one! If you haven’t heard of Mess In A Bottle” its a t-shirt company founded by Kaliyah Wright, that has the most funniest “mess-ages” on their tees. They have cute tees like “Long Hair She Don’t Care” and “My Melanin So Rich You Can’t Afford It” and much more. Not only that, but your tees, if you select, actually comes inside a glass bottle. How cool is that?

I think this sweatshirt by “Mess In A Bottle” would make a great gift for anyone who understands this student loan life. Lord knows I am not about it. I am waiting on Sallie Mae to just say girl all is forgiven lol. A girl can dream right? I mean this sweatshirt is so warm too. Perfect for those cold, winter days where you want to look comfy and chic.  Anyways, I think its a wonderful thing to support small businesses. I want to do more of that going forward because its so great to support somebody’s dream! So definitely make sure you head on over to “Mess In A Bottle site and order up! If you SIGN UP for her email list, you can receive 20% off your order. Winning!!

See you Thursday for my next post!!

I swear I cant have too many leather jackets. Each year I look for another leather jacket that I will fall in love with. A great leather jacket makes it so easy to look well put together. They are one of my favorite fall fashion staples! I picked this one up at a local consignment shop here in Dallas called Refinery Consignment for a steal!! As soon as I saw this BCBG jacket I snatched it off the rack and ran to try it on. Oh and the shoes too, I know you are salivating over these beauties! They are by L.A.M.B. and are another Refinery Consignment steal. If you are in town, definitely check this store out for great designer pieces at affordable prices! I need to stop in soon myself to see what other goodies I can find!

Jackets and coats are some of my favorite wardrobe pieces to buy actually. Why? It could be because I am a Midwest girl.  I remember every fall my mom and I would go shopping for a new coat. I would always get so excited for a new winter coat and I still do! I’ve linked a few great leather jackets for you below as my jacket I cannot find online. These jackets are on my wish list and that hunter green one is calling my name!!!

Is a leather jacket a fall staple for you? Let me know!

A “Date Night” outfit is always a must-have around these parts! My husband and I don’t get many date nights since having Camille. But, when we do, I always have a good date night outfit on hand so I can slay lol. We decided to up our game on date nights this summer and have one coming up soon. This casual, but dressed up outfit is PERFECT for date night if you ask me! Especially, this gorgeous top from SheIn! Its EVER-YTHING!!! As soon as I tried it on, I got super excited because it’s so stylish, unique and comfortable!!  When I think of what to wear on date nights, my go to is a cute, flirty top, jeans and heels. So putting this ensemble together was easy!! The ripped jeans, statement clutch and bold red lips makes me feel sexy and ready to hit the streets with my boo!!

Oh and this lemonade that you see in all of my pictures was so necessary! LOL. It had to be 100 degrees out when we were shooting in Downtown, Mckinney, Texas. It was scorching hot!! So when I saw a frozen lemonade sign, I ran in and IMMEDIATELY asked for the largest one they had!!  It was absolutely delicious and made the shoot a lot cooler. I absolutely refused to put it down while taking these pics lol. The struggle is so real with these blog shoots people! I may write a post on what to pack for a blog shoot if any of you future bloggers out there are interested! Let me know!

See you soon for my next post!!

Hey Loves!

If you are following me on Instagram (you are following me, right?), you know that I was on vacation to San Francisco a few weeks ago. My family and I went to San Francisco to visit my brother in law and his girlfriend. It was my first time in Cali as an adult (going at 5 years old doesn’t count, right?). We had so much fun exploring the city!

Hello loves! Its Thursday and that means I am a happy camper as the weekend is upon us! When I styled this look, I knew I wanted it to be a little casual, but impactful. Dallas weather this winter has been all over the place, its cold one-minute and warm the next. So I took to layering up! I did a nod to the 90s movie “Clueless,” by wearing a crop top over a flowy blouse and a little print mixing! The burgundy cropped turtleneck and handbag adds warmth and depth to the look. Throw in a great pair of distressed, ripped jeans and faux fur pom poms for the cutest details. This is a great outfit because you get a balancing act of using two bold prints: camouflage and leopard together. I’d like to share a few of my own personal tips for print mixing. I always admire the girls that can throw on three different prints and make it work. But, I’m a little conservative when it comes to print mixing. I don’t want to look like I got dressed in the dark lol. I still want to look effortless and maintain my sense of style. Don’t let print mixing overwhelm you. I have five tips of how I incorporate print mixing in my wardrobe that works for me!

1. Be open to trying different patterns and prints- Leopard, floral, plaid, polka dots, camouflage, tweed, stripes etc. Write down the prints you currently have and create combinations. This allows you to think a little outside of the box and get the creative juices flowing!

2. There’s levels to this- Determine how bold you are willing to go with print mixing. Personally, I don’t want my prints “competing” with one another. In today’s look, you can see how I wore the camo jacket and the leopard shoes together. But, notice how these two prints are not close to one another. To me, this is an easier approach to mixing prints since they’re not directly next to each other.

3. Wear one bold print and a smaller print – Imagine a floral dress with huge flowers and a leopard coat with gigantic spots. It’s too much!! Try wearing a floral dress with smaller floral print and a leopard coat with bigger spots or vice versa. Tone down the proportions of the print for more impact and wearability.

4. Accessorize- don’t forget, you can incorporate accessories when print mixing too! Honestly, accessories are a great start for a rookie print mixer. Take note of my tortoise shell sunglasses! Its a small touch but another print added to the mix. An easy print to start with is leopard! A leopard bracelet or leopard handbag or shoes can just about work with any other print. Leopard is all the rage right now. Embrace it!

5. Back to step 1, those combinations you wrote down? Yes, its time to try it all on. Allow yourself to visually see how the prints look on your frame and body. Discover what works for you and makes you the most comfortable when mixing prints. You’d be surprised at what you come up with!

It’s Thursday! This week has flown by and I am happy about it. I think today’s look is definitely up there as one of my favorites. I absolutely love graphic tees. A graphic tee allows you to be creative and expressive.Unsure of how to style a graphic tee? Keep it simple! You can never have too many if you ask me! You can pretty much wear this look anywhere, even for Valentine’s Day if you like. I bought this hot pink leather moto jacket last year and sadly its no longer available in this particular color. I thought it would be fun to add a pop of color to this look and I really feel its the icing on the cake. You guys know I will throw on my favorite boyfriend jeans and fringe boots with just about anything. I think this outfit came together perfectly. Don’t you?
If you didn’t know, I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. It is a place that is near and dear to my heart. I know the Detroit you may hear about on the news sounds unsettling. And that it is. But, growing up it was my home. And there is no place like it. When I tell people I am from Detroit, they are usually surprised. I suppose we all have our thoughts on our expectations of people and where they’re from. I guess because of what they have heard, they expect someone from Detroit would act or behave a certain way. I’m not really offended. But, you most definitely can’t talk down on my city to me!! lol. I always will represent proudly where I am from!!
This tee speaks volumes about my city, my home. Most times, it does feel like Detroit vs Everybody. The challenges my city faces are definitely difficult. But, the memories I have growing up in “Tha D” always makes me smile. I remember when I was little, playing in the park at Belle Isle across from my grandmother apartment, Easter egg hunts at my church, riding my bike in my neighborhood and getting ice cream at our neighborhood ice cream shop. My high school, Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. is one of the top three high schools in the city. The memories I have of my classmates and teachers are priceless. Cruising downtown with my friends, the summer music festivals at Hart Plaza and eating delicious food in Greektown on a warm summer night. My mom was a community activist and worked hard at rebuilding the neighborhood and serving the community. Everyone knew Mrs. Taylor! She would take me with her to the community meetings and activities. She showed me what its truly is like to give back to your community and to be selfless as well. Looking back, I can appreciate those moments. Her love for the city was truly grand and she loved every second of the work she had done. My mother passed away five years ago. My dad is still there in the home I was raised in. I haven’t visited home since I’ve had my daughter. I’m tearing up a bit writing this post because the memories of home are so vivid and strong.  Even though I live in Dallas now, there is truly no place like home. Detroit, I am rooting for you! And I love you.
